About Thinkmill
- We’re a design and development consultancy. We design and build software and platforms with long-term clients and partners, including Atlassian, Reckon, Enlitic, Vocal, and more.
- Our design team works across a wide range of domains and industries including specialist business software, medical AI platforms, online publishing, healthcare, IoT, and more.
- We’re an engineering-led company, with extensive experience developing Design System and Front-end architectures.
- Our model is not typical: we partner with companies both locally and internationally to augment, or become, their design and technology team. This means we get the best of both worlds: the depth of long-term product development usually restricted to single-product companies, as well as the diversity of multi-client agencies.
- We’re major open source contributors, including: KeystoneJS, Keystatic, Emotion, react-select, monorepo.guide, and more.
- We organise popular meet-ups and conferences, including React Sydney, SydJS, and ReactConfAU.
- We’ve been featured in AFR’s Fast100 companies in 2018, 2019, 2021.
About the role
- You’ll be redesigning a major part of a SaaS product that is getting overhauled.
- The work spans UX and UI (using the design system we helped build).
- The engagement is with a longstanding and highly valued Thinkmill client. You’ll be working in proximity to Thinkmill Engineers.
- There’s quite a bit of sleuthing work involved – you’ll need to take the initiative to extract intel from across a range of stakeholders and SMEs to move the work forward.
About you
We’re looking for someone with senior-level user interface and visual design skills who sweats the details and cares deeply about quality. That means…
- You’re a strong communicator, and you can get your ideas across clearly and persuasively in writing. We’re a fully remote team, so async written communication is very important.
- You’re prolific at designing high-quality, well-organised UIs and patterns that balance end-user goals (what’s the best possible thing this could be?), with real-world constraints like time, budget, and feasibility (what’s the best thing this could be within the constraints?).
- You’re comfortable operating autonomously, and are able to unblock yourself when needed.
- You have experience working effectively within or alongside software development teams, and are a positive and supportive member of the team (no wannabe Steve Jobs’, please).
- You posses a keen interest in the gritty, grimy details of usability and interfaces, and how software is made. In other words, you think this and this is gripping reading.
- You’re familiar with how front-end development happens (that is, how software interfaces are made, their trade-offs and compromises) and you use this familiarity to inform your designs decisions.
- You have experience in a consulting or agency context and/or experience working directly with key stakeholders (nice to have).
- Most importantly, you just love to make stuff.
