Who We Are
We are an organisation that exists to drive progress. That's the “red thread” that connects everyone at The Economist Group (TEG). Our businesses share a devotion to innovation, independence and rigour in their fields of expertise. We empower people to understand and tackle the critical challenges and changes facing the world. Our analytical rigour, global expertise and evidence-based insights enable individuals and organisations to make sense of these shifts and chart a course through them.
We deliver analysis and insights in many formats to subscribers and clients in 170 countries through our four businesses, The Economist, Economist Impact, Economist Intelligence and Economist Education, which uphold our global reputation for excellence and integrity.
The Economist Group is a global media and information services company that exists to champion progress. We provide individuals and organisations with the expertise, insights and perspective to press forward.
The vision of the Economist’s engineering team is to create the world's leading digital newspaper, making all the important journalism our editorial team produces available to our global audience, which spans 159 countries with an active subscriber base of 1.1 million people. As a technology and data-driven business, we recognise the key role outstanding engineers and engineering managers play in helping us achieve our goals.
We use a diverse range of modern technologies and processes, building cloud-hosted solutions with a focus on global reach, performance and observability. We believe in using the right tool for the job, so we build our software with several programming languages including Go, TypeScript, React, Python and various .NET languages.
About The Role
As we expand our B2B offerings across Enterprise, Partnerships, and our fast-evolving Generative AI initiatives, we are looking for a technically strong, people-centric Engineering Manager to lead a high-impact team based in Indonesia. This role is instrumental to our next phase of growth and innovation across key product lines.
You’ll lead a multidisciplinary team of 6-8 engineers working across backend systems, partner integrations, and GenAI-powered features. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of our B2B and AI technology stack, nurture high-performing talent, and collaborate cross-functionally with global engineering, product, design, QA, and delivery teams.
If you bring deep backend engineering experience, working knowledge of frontend frameworks like React, and a genuine curiosity for (or hands-on experience with) Generative AI technologies, we’d love to hear from you.
