Job Summary
The 33rd Team is seeking a highly motivated Sr. Data Scientist to design and implement models built off player tracking data for our proprietary data product , Zenith. This role will play a key part in advancing the core data platform we provide for client consumption. The ideal candidate will have a deep passion for and knowledge of the game of football. This individual will lead model development and work cross functionally with product and engineering teams in deployment.
Core Responsibilities
● Design, build, and implement advanced machine learning and statistical models to analyze player and team performance using player tracking data
● Collaborate with our engineering and platform teams to deploy and maintain analytical models in a production environment, ensuring they are scalable, robust, and performant.
● Stay current with academic research and industry trends in sports analytics, machine learning, and data science. Proactively identify and explore new datasets, methodologies, and technologies to enhance our analytics capabilities and create new product features.
● Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to establishing best practices for code quality, model validation, and documentation.
Qualifications
● A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a data science, machine learning, or quantitative analytics role. Demonstrated expertise in sports analytics is highly preferred, as evidenced by previous industry experience, public projects, or participation in events like the Big Data Bowl..
● A strong passion for and deep knowledge of football, including a working understanding of the rules, schemes, and strategy.
● Expert-level proficiency in Elixir preferred for statistical modeling and machine learning. Python or R are OK.
● Advanced SQL skills and experience working with large-scale databases.
● Experience with big data technologies such as Spark, Databricks, or similar frameworks.
● Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and MLOps principles for model deployment.
● Deep understanding of a variety of statistical methods and machine learning techniques, including regression analysis, time series forecasting, and classification algorithms.
● Proven ability to work with and derive insights from high-dimensional, time-series data, such as raw RFID tracking data.
● Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to approach complex, ambiguous problems.
● Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences, including football coaches and executives.
● Experience creating reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate insights effectively.
Pay Transparency
This is a full time position with a pay range of $110,000-130,000. The company provides benefits for medical, dental and vision.
