Ecommerce Designer ( UI/UX)

Remote (Europe preferred) | Performance-Focused Shopify Agency | $2500 - $3000 USD per month

About That Works

That Works is a performance-focused Shopify agency of around 25 to 30 people. We work with high-growth DTC (direct-to-consumer) ecommerce brands across conversion rate optimisation (CRO), website design, landing pages and A/B testing. Most of our clients are on monthly retainers, and almost everything we design exists for one reason: to help a brand’s online store make more money. We use AI heavily across the business, and we expect everyone on the team to as well.

What we work on:

  • CRO for high-growth DTC brands on Shopify
  • Landing pages and funnels, from advertorials and listicles to quiz funnels
  • A/B tests, product page improvements and full website design

Why This Role Exists

We run our delivery through small teams we call pods. Each pod has an account manager, a designer and a developer, and it handles all the work for a group of 5 to 8 clients. We currently have five pods. You’ll be the only designer in your pod, which means you own the design for every brand it looks after. This isn’t a general graphic design job. It’s performance design: CRO, landing pages, A/B tests and funnels, where every decision should be one you can explain in terms of how it helps a store convert.

The Role

As our Ecommerce Designer, you’ll design anything a Shopify store needs, for several brands at once, often switching between them in the same day. Work is briefed in by strategists and account managers, with priorities set by your pod’s account manager. Your designs are handed to developers to build and presented to clients by the account manager. You’ll report to MD, who acts as a line manager for the design team.

Design for Performance

  • Design sections, widgets, full pages, product page improvements, A/B test variations, look and feel exercises and every type of landing page
  • Make every design easy to use, on brand and built to convert, and be able to explain each decision through a UX and CRO lens
  • Apply the same principles to more brand-led clients, such as fashion brands, without losing sight of conversion

Landing Pages & Funnels

  • Build advertorials, listicles, quiz funnels and other landing pages that perform
  • Know what separates a good landing page from a bad one: structure, section length, time to the buy area, calls to action, imagery and information architecture

Brand Ownership & Design Systems

  • Own and maintain the design language for every brand in your pod
  • Keep each brand’s design system consistent, and help improve a brand’s look where the client is open to it

Speed, Accuracy & Handover

  • Work fast and accurately across a high-volume, varied workload. We bill clients by the hour, so speed and precision both matter
  • Context-switch quickly between brands, and between quick tasks and bigger projects in the same week
  • Hand over clearly so developers build designs as intended and account managers can present them with confidence
  • Push back on unclear briefs, take feedback well and iterate

Improving How We Design

  • Help improve our tools, templates and shared libraries
  • Shape how the design team uses AI, including our own AI-assisted page builder

How We Work

You won’t be client-facing in the sense of running calls or presentations, but you will be in client Slack channels to answer design queries directly. Day to day, the rhythm looks like this:

  • Daily pod standup: 15 minutes on Google Meet with your account manager and developers
  • Slack for day-to-day communication, internally and in client channels
  • ClickUp for task management, with time tracked against every ticket
  • Friday all-team call with the whole agency
  • Tools: Figma, plus our own AI-assisted page builder

What You’ll Bring:

Must-haves

  • A strong ecommerce UI/UX portfolio, ideally Shopify and DTC brands, showing pages and sections designed to convert, not just to look good
  • Landing page and funnel experience, and a real understanding of what makes them perform
  • Solid CRO fundamentals, and the ability to explain why a design should convert
  • Great written and spoken English
  • An AI-forward mindset: you’re already using AI in your design process and keen to push it further
  • Pixel-perfect attention to detail, and the speed to juggle several brands at once
  • Confidence working with briefs, developers and feedback, and pushing back when something isn’t right

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with no-code tools such as Replo, Framer or Webflow (a strong plus; Figma experience on its own is fine)
  • Agency experience across multiple clients, or in-house experience at a DTC brand
  • A/B testing experience, ideally with results you can talk about
  • Copywriting ability, or a strong eye for copy
  • Building or maintaining design systems
  • An interest in marketing and paid social, and how ads connect to landing pages

Probably not the right fit if

  • Your portfolio is all brand, print or illustration, with no ecommerce or conversion-focused work
  • You can explain how a design looks, but not why it works
  • You prefer a slow, highly precious way of working that needs weeks per page
  • You’re resistant to AI or to changing how you work

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Up to $2500 - $3000 per month depending on experience
  • 20 days additional leave
  • 6 month and yearly Performance Review
  • Yearly Team Trip
  • Internal Reward & Recognition Programme
  • Birthday Voucher
  • Fully remote working, with flexible start and finish times
