About Commure

Commure is building a universal platform and common architecture for open collaboration and people-first care. Partnering with large health systems and digital-first providers, Commure is weaving the fabric of tomorrow's health ecosystem in service of connected care and collective wellbeing. Commure was founded in 2017 by General Catalyst Managing Partner Hemant Taneja, and is headquartered in San Francisco.

About The Role

Athelas AIR is building the AI-first Electronic Medical Record (EMR) that makes providers’ lives seamless. Our mission is to remove complexity from healthcare technology so clinicians can focus on what matters most: patient care. We’re seeking a Software Engineer focused on ONC/MIPS compliance to help us meet and exceed regulatory standards. This role will join an existing team working to achieve our compliance requirements for ONC certification and MIPS programs, ensuring that our AI-driven EMR is both cutting-edge and compliant with federal healthcare regulations. You’ll be expected to quickly deliver production grade software against estimates and project timelines. You’ll work closely with four other engineers on the AIR Compliance Team, sharing design reviews, pairing on tricky implementation details, and keeping a consistent coding style and approach across the team.

What You’ll Do

  • Quickly onboard into existing workflows, tools, and standards to minimize ramp-up time.
  • Translate ONC/MIPS compliance requirements into technical specifications and scalable software solutions.
  • Implement core MIPS reporting features aligned with federal guidelines to ensure AIR EHR meets requirements.
  • Contribute as a peer engineer on an established compliance squad, ensuring consistency with existing architecture and code practices.
  • Write detailed technical design documents that explain reasoning, scale considerations, and implementation strategy.
  • Participate in small, focused stand-ups with a lean team.
  • Contribute directly to development work, primarily coding and building features.
  • Join technical discussions to guide design decisions around compliance and scalability.
  • Read, understand, and implement complex FHIR and ONC certification documentation.

What You’ll Bring

  • 3+ years of experience in Python
  • Must have: Postgres, SQLAlchemy, React, TypeScript and cloud experience with GCP or AWS (GCP preferred)
  • Preferred: Experience with GCP queues, FHIR APIs and MIPS Standards, health care compliance, ONC certification
  • Experience designing and building production-grade features
  • Comfort working against deadlines in a fast-paced team environment
  • Ability to produce detailed, clear technical design documents that justify design decisions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, especially when explaining regulatory complexity to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong collaboration skills within a small, fast-moving team — including code reviews, design discussions, and proactive communication on blockers.
  • Ability to interpret and operationalize healthcare standards (FHIR, ONC certification documentation
