What’s the opportunity?

This role is instrumental in advancing Telstra Health's mission through meticulous planning and execution across the entire product delivery lifecycle, including:

  • Guiding the Design Process: Oversee and direct the entire design process, ensuring that product design principles are effectively integrated to enhance the user experience.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and end users to ensure that digital solutions deliver a high-quality, consistent user experience and adhere to the Telstra Health Design Standards.
  • Leveraging Healthcare Experience: Utilise expertise in healthcare to shape clinically safe product and experiences, improving user centric thinking within the broader team.

About the role:

The Product Designer is responsible for creating user-centred digital solutions by leveraging research insights and design standards. This role involves end-to-end design processes, ensuring usability and functionality through continuous validation and feedback loops. The key accountabilities and outcomes include:

  • End-to-End Solutions: Provide pragmatic approach to crafting well-designed, effective, and user-friendly digital solutions. Utilise research insights to identify user problems and devise potential solutions that is commercially viable and device /platform agnostic.
  • Usability Improvements: Continuously validate and refine existing solutions to ensure they offer optimal functionality and a user-friendly experience. Implement feedback loops and usability testing to address any issues.
  • Design Operations: Develop, implement, and maintain product design standards, conventions, processes, and documentation templates, including wireframe libraries, design discovery frameworks, feedback mechanisms, design systems, information architectures, hand over notes and accessibility frameworks that are scalable.
  • User Research: Conduct lean research methodologies, including interviews, usability testing, competitor analysis, and ethnographic studies, to uncover deep insights into user needs and behaviours. Translate these findings quantitatively and qualitatively into actionable design solutions that drive product innovation.
  • Storytelling: Present a solution or an idea with high level of context to bring teams together and align quickly and efficiently.
  • Key Design Artifacts: Create and document key artifacts such as personas, journey maps, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and information architectures to effectively guide and communicate your vision throughout the design and development process.
  • Strategic Participation: Proactively engage in strategic reviews, program planning, research and development projects to align design initiatives with broader business goals and technological advancements
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, clinical safety, designers, developers, and other team members to ensure that designs are feasible and effectively implemented. Coordinate the design discovery process and facilitate design reviews to refine and improve solutions. Ensure transparency, establish agreed-upon timeframes, and implement routines to maintain alignment throughout the design process.
  • Design Standards: Regularly review components, products and technologies to ensure they meet high design standards. Ensure that components are consistent and contextual across different platforms and touchpoints.
  • Customer Voice: Gather, analyse, and integrate user feedback (qualitative and quantitative) to inform design decisions. Conduct usability tests, interviews, timestamp analysis, day in the life (DITL) sessions and surveys to uncover insights that address user needs and pain points. Advocate for the user while balancing business goals, leveraging feedback and quantitative data to inform iterative design cycles.
  • Clinical Safety: Collaborating closely with clinical teams, regulatory experts, and engineers to identify potential safety risks in the product and mitigate them through thoughtful design. Responsible for integrating clinical safety considerations throughout the design process, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring that user interfaces promote safe interactions in healthcare environments. Your role is critical in balancing innovative design with patient safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Design Partnership: Collaborating closely with partners to ensure deliverables meet design standards, while implementing practices that enable efficient and swift execution.

About you:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in similar role
  • Health industry/sector experience - desirable
  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Design, Human Centred Design, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Certifications in Product (UX/UI) design, human-computer interaction, or related fields (e.g., Certified Usability Analyst (CUA), UX Certification.
  • Experience working in Agile environments and understanding of how product design fits within Agile processes.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesise data from many sources.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to facilitate design thinking workshops.
  • Experience working on complex flows with various medium
  • Proficient in Responsive design (Desktop to mobile).
  • Proficient in wireframe, prototype, design and data tools (e.g. Balsamiq, Figma, Tableau/BI/Excel).
  • Experience managing and utilising design systems.
  • Understands the fundamentals of front-end development.
  • Experience in SaaS platforms.
  • Experience working through multiple product life cycles (from new to optimising core features).
  • Experience in Healthcare digital products.
