Summary
Seeking a Senior UX Designer to join its digital innovation team, focused on building advanced interfaces for surgical software and hardware.
This role requires someone who can independently lead UX efforts from discovery through validation—translating clinical and technical requirements into clear, scalable, and compliant user experiences.
Responsibilities
- Design interfaces across surgical consoles, touchscreens, desktop, mobile, and web platforms
- Translate complex workflows into intuitive, user-centered solutions
- Facilitate participatory design and story-mapping workshops
- Partner with engineering and product leadership to align UX with functional goals
- Deliver UX artifacts including wireframes, prototypes, task flows, and polished designs
- Maintain and evolve a code-aligned component design system
- Conduct and apply user research and usability testing across product lifecycles
- Document design rationale to support FDA-compliant traceability
- Apply minimalist UI principles to complex interaction models
- Explore and incorporate emerging technologies (e.g., AI, spatial computing, AR/VR)
- Own design execution independently with minimal oversight
Qualifications
- Degree in a related field
- 6+ years of UX/UI design experience across complex systems
- Must have experience designing for FDA-regulated or equivalent environments (e.g., ISO 13485, IEC 62304), with documented UX traceability
- Portfolio must demonstrate simplification of complex systems, rationale-driven design decisions, and documentation that supports traceability, validation, and design controls
- 2+ years designing GUIs for embedded systems or physical hardware in regulated domains
- Experience designing for multi-platform software/hardware ecosystems (e.g., surgical consoles, touchscreens, desktop, mobile, embedded interfaces)
- Experience collaborating directly with software engineering teams
- 3+ years working in Agile product environments
- 3+ years conducting user research and usability testing
- Strong understanding of UX principles, human-centered design, and design thinking
- Proficient in Figma and Sketch
- Skilled in journey mapping, story mapping, voice of customer (VoC), and user metrics
- Able to present and defend design work to cross-functional stakeholders
- Strong craft in visual hierarchy, clarity, and spacing
- Technical understanding of design implementation across development platforms
