Build the Infrastructure Behind Modern Tax with TaxNow
TaxNow is building the data infrastructure layer for the entire tax industry — a direct, real-time connection between taxpayers, their advisors, and the IRS. Think of what Plaid did for banking, or what Zillow did for home search.
We're a small, well-funded team with strong revenue, exceptional retention, and a growing roster of enterprise customers that includes some of the most recognized names in accounting and financial services. We're not pre-product and we're not pre-revenue. We're at the inflection point where the right engineer can actually shape what this becomes.
You'll work directly with product leadership, own meaningful parts of the codebase, and have a real say in how we build. We're leaning heavily into AI right now and want someone who is either already building with it or genuinely excited to. This isn't a "future roadmap" item for us, it's happening now.
What You’ll Do
As a Software Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining high‑quality software solutions that align with our product vision and business goals. You’ll work cross‑functionally with product, engineering, and external partners to continuously improve our application. This is expected to primarily be a frontend-focused role with opportunities for backend development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Experimenting with AI-driven features and a willingness to explore emerging patterns as the space evolves
- Design and develop robust, scalable frontend architectures
- Own features end‑to‑end from requirements analysis through deployment
- Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code
- Automate workflows using appropriate tools and scripting
- Review, debug, and optimize existing codebases
- Perform validation and verification testing to ensure quality and reliability
- Document development phases and monitor system performance
What we're looking for
Required Qualifications:
- 2+ years' experience as a Software Engineer
- Strong background in software development, scripting, and project execution
- Strong interest in leveraging AI to augment software development
- Proficiency in one or more object-oriented programming languages such as Python or TypeScript
- Experience with React (required) and familiarity with Next.js (preferred)
- General understanding of RESTful APIs
- Familiarity with OAuth and SSO (strongly preferred but not required)
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team
- Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
The kind of engineer who thrives here:
- You want to understand the domain, not just close the ticket
- You write code you're not embarrassed to have reviewed
- You're energized by hard, ambiguous problems
- You care whether the product actually works for the people using it
Why TaxNow?
- The problem is real and the moat is deep. We built a direct IRS data connection that took years and regulatory navigation to establish. That's not something a competitor spins up in a quarter.
- The AI opportunity is wide open. We sit on top of verified, structured IRS data across hundreds of thousands of taxpayers. The AI applications — copilots, automated notice response, intelligent readiness reporting — are just getting started, and the engineers here now will build them.
- You'll matter immediately. We're a small, senior team. Your work ships, your opinions land, and your fingerprints are on the product.
- The trajectory is real. We have customers that range from single CPA shops to enterprise level firms, strong retention, and momentum going into our next series. The engineers here now will have the most context and the most opportunity as we scale.
- Competitive comp + benefits. We share specifics in the first conversation.
