Senior / Staff Engineer – Security & Distributed Systems
Location: Fully Remote (EU-friendly hours preferred)
Commitment: Full-time
Sallary: $120,000 USD base salary, plus a meaningful token/equity package
About idOS
idOS is building the decentralized identity layer for Web3, allowing users to own their verified identity once and securely reuse it across multiple applications. Instead of every company repeating KYC and identity verification, idOS provides secure identity infrastructure that is already used in production for regulated financial products.
We're a small, highly experienced remote team solving challenging problems in security, distributed systems, and digital identity.
The Role
We're looking for a hands-on Senior or Staff Engineer who enjoys building secure, reliable backend systems and isn't afraid to dive into complex technical challenges.
You'll work closely with the founders and senior engineers to design, build and secure the core infrastructure behind the idOS Network and Relay. This is a highly collaborative role where you'll have significant influence over architecture while remaining actively involved in implementation.
What You'll Do
- Design and build secure backend services and distributed systems
- Review architecture with a security-first mindset and identify potential risks before they reach production
- Contribute across the full development lifecycle, from design to deployment
- Help improve reliability, scalability and performance of production systems
- Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
- Support incident response and continuously improve operational resilience
- Occasionally join technical discussions with enterprise customers and partners
We're Looking For
You don't need to tick every box, but we'd love to hear from you if you have experience with most of the following:
- Strong backend engineering experience building production systems
- Solid knowledge of distributed systems and scalable architectures
- Experience with TypeScript and/or Go
- Security-minded approach to software development
- Experience designing APIs and backend services
- Comfortable working in a small, fast-moving engineering team
- Excellent communication skills and ownership mentality
Nice to Have
Any of these are a bonus, not a requirement:
- Applied cryptography or secure key management
- Authentication, identity or access management systems
- PostgreSQL internals or distributed databases
- libp2p, consensus or peer-to-peer networking
- Solidity or smart contract development
- Verifiable Credentials, DID or digital identity standards
- AWS Nitro Enclaves or Trusted Execution Environments
- Experience with blockchain infrastructure or Web3

What Makes Someone Successful Here
We're less interested in whether you've worked with every technology in our stack and more interested in how you think.
The strongest candidates are engineers who:
- Enjoy solving difficult backend and infrastructure problems
- Think about security from the start, not as an afterthought
- Like building reliable systems that operate at scale
- Take ownership and enjoy working closely with a small senior team
- Stay hands-on and enjoy writing production code
What We Offer
- Fully remote work with flexible hours
- Small, senior engineering team with minimal bureaucracy
- Direct influence on architecture and technical decisions
- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge identity and security infrastructure
- Competitive compensation of up to $120,000 USD base salary, plus a meaningful token/equity package as part of the core team
