Traffic Project Manager

Location(s): Open to candidates located in Des Moines, IA, Cedar Rapids, IA, Quad Cities, IA, Minneapolis, MN, St. Paul, MN, Sioux Falls, SD, Chicago, IL or St. Louis MO.

This is NOT a fully remote position. Candidates must be located in one of the cities listed above and will be required to be in office once a week

Overview:

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Traffic Project Manager to join our dynamic team! In this role, you’ll lead the delivery of complex traffic design and planning projects across multiple regions, while also building and maintaining strong relationships with key clients. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead traffic engineering projects from concept through completion, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, and schedules; prepare professional service agreements and proposals.
  • Direct and coordinate internal project teams, assigning tasks and resources appropriately.
  • Monitor project financials, including invoicing and accounts receivable; proactively manage budget adherence.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong, ongoing relationships and identifying opportunities for repeat or referral business.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other technical disciplines and departments as needed.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior staff; support professional growth through coaching and on-the-job training.
  • Play an active role in business development and client engagement efforts.
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews and ensure technical excellence throughout project lifecycles.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in traffic engineering, including traffic studies, signal design, modeling, and analysis.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required; PTOE certification strongly preferred.
  • Proficient with traffic engineering software tools such as HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, Corsim, Rodel, MicroStation/GEOPAK, and SignCAD.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal oversight.
  • Strong technical judgment, problem-solving abilities, and leadership skills.
