Senior Software Engineer (Remote)

2. About the Opportunity:

The Senior Software Engineer role involves advancing the capabilities and performance of a distributed query engine within a key data platform. This position contributes to both the development and technical direction of an open-source database project, enabling the organization to deliver faster and more efficient query processing that supports a wide range of customer needs.

3. Responsibilities:

• Extend the query engine and storage system to support additional query functions
• Develop complex query capabilities optimizing performance
• Collaborate with field engineering to enhance customer support
• Contribute to the growth of the open-source community through code and design reviews

4. Requirements:

• Experience developing high concurrency, performance-oriented Java systems
• Minimum of five years as an individual contributor
• Strong software engineering practices including code reviews and emphasis on testability and quality
• Effective communication skills for explaining technical concepts
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience

Bonus Points:

• Experience with internals of large-scale distributed systems and databases such as Hadoop, Spark, Presto, or ElasticSearch
• History of open-source contributions, especially in data-related projects

5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:

• Compensation range: $155,000 - $215,000
• Eligible to participate in the organization’s equity plan subject to applicable terms
