TalentFish is casting a line for a UX Designer! This is a contract-to-hire role that is remote within the U.S.
This exciting opportunity places you at the heart of a mission-driven, cross-functional team of researchers, front-end and back-end engineers, and data scientists. As the sole UX Designer on the team, you'll play a central role in bridging design and development—ensuring that digital interfaces are accessible, usable, and aligned with brand and research goals. The work has meaningful impact on public interest, and you'll help shape the way information and experiences are delivered to users.
What You Bring to the Role. (Ideal Experience)
3–5 years of professional experience in UX Design
Proficiency in Figma and/or Adobe Creative Suite (especially Illustrator)
Ability to produce both traditional and technical design deliverables (e.g., vector files, HTML/CSS mockups)
Strong communication skills and the ability to operate independently as the sole UX resource
Portfolio showcasing modern, accessible web interfaces—ideally with public interest or research-oriented work
Comfortable working within cross-functional, agile product teams
Preferred / Bonus Experience:
Experience or interest in open-source software/tools (e.g., Penpot, Inkscape)
Experience working on B2B applications or data visualization tools
Understanding of brand governance or research-focused branding
Background in UX research (usability testing, interviews, analysis)
Familiarity with front-end frameworks or light development work

Willing to get hands dirty and work hands-on with engineers
Passionate about open-source or social impact projects
What You'll Do. (Skills Used in this Position)
Lead UX design efforts across multiple web-based projects
Collaborate closely with front-end developers, engineers, and researchers
Facilitate design workshops and deliver high-quality wireframes, mockups, and prototypes
Work within (or help develop) brand style guides and contribute to accessible, user-friendly interfaces
Deliver front-end handoff assets (HTML/CSS, SVGs, vector formats)
Represent the user perspective in a highly technical and collaborative team environment
Support open-source design practices when applicable
