We're looking for a highly experienced and passionate Senior UX Service Designer to join our dedicated team, focused on transforming critical public services. You'll play a vital role in designing end-to-end, citizen-centric experiences that are inclusive, accessible, and compliant with government standards. This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, hands-on design expertise, and the ability to navigate the unique complexities of the public sector environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of complex service areas, leading the design from discovery and alpha stages through to live implementation and continuous iteration.
- Plan, conduct, and analyze comprehensive user research (qualitative and quantitative) with diverse user groups, turning insights into actionable design recommendations.
- Create detailed service blueprints, user journey maps, and system maps to visualize the current state and model future state services across all touchpoints.
- Collaborate effectively with policy experts, product owners, delivery managers, subject matter experts, and other designers to align service design with policy intent and technical feasibility.
- Ensure all designs meet the GDS Service Standard (or equivalent government design standards) and comply with accessibility regulations (WCAG 2.1 AA).
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior UX/Service Designers and advocate for service design principles across the organization.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Service Designer or Senior UX Designer, with a significant portion of this experience gained within the public sector or a related regulated industry.
- Expert-level knowledge and practical experience with the end-to-end Double Diamond design process.
- Demonstrable ability to design for accessibility and inclusion, particularly meeting WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
- Strong portfolio showcasing strategic service design projects, illustrating the impact of your work on user outcomes and organizational efficiency.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to articulate design rationale to senior stakeholders.
- Proficiency with relevant design and collaboration tools (e.g., Miro, Figma, etc.).
