Job Description

We are seeking a highly seasoned Principal Software Engineer with 12+ years of professional enterprise-scale development experience to join our engineering team on a contract basis. In this role, you will hit the ground running, taking ownership of critical, high-traffic backend services and cloud infrastructure.

As a senior contractor, you are expected to bring deep architectural expertise, production-hardened coding practices, and the ability to deliver complex technical features with minimal supervision. You will collaborate closely with product managers, cross-functional engineering teams, and enterprise architects to design and ship high-performance, scalable, and secure systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Hands-on Development: Design, write, test, and deploy clean, highly maintainable, and production-ready code for enterprise applications.
• Architecture & Design: Drive system-level architecture decisions, breaking down monolithic services into resilient microservices or cloud-native serverless applications.
• API & Data Contracts: Establish and maintain robust, fail-loud API data contracts, schema-first architectures, and modern integration patterns (RESTful, gRPC, or GraphQL).
• Performance Tuning: Troubleshoot, profile, and optimize data structures, algorithms, and application memory footprints to handle high-concurrency, low-latency traffic.
• CI/CD & Observability: Own the deployment health by integrating comprehensive unit/integration tests into automated pipelines and setting up deep observability monitoring (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus, Splunk).
• Technical Leadership: Conduct rigorous code reviews, establish engineering best practices, and provide technical alignment across distributed or offshore engineering teams.

Required Technical Skills & Qualifications

• Experience: 12+ years of progressive, hands-on software engineering experience in enterprise-grade production environments.
• Core Stack: Expert-level proficiency in [Insert Primary Language, e.g., Java / Spring Boot, Go, Python, C# .NET] and associated frameworks.
• Cloud Architecture: Deep expertise with major cloud platforms—[AWS / Azure / GCP]—including hands-on experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
• Database & Data Engineering: Strong command of complex database design using both relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL systems (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra). Expert SQL/query optimization skills are required.
• Engineering Rigor: Proven track record with Git workflows, automated testing frameworks (TDD/BDD), and building secure, compliant software against modern vulnerabilities.
• US Market / Agile Agility: Extensive experience operating in high-velocity, fast-paced Agile/Scrum environments with tight deployment schedules.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Skills

• Experience with frontend technologies (React, TypeScript, Node.js) for full-stack versatility.
• Hands-on experience with modern data stacks (Snowflake, Kafka, Airflow, dbt).
• Exposure to integrating Generative AI, LLMs, or AI-assisted engineering tools into development workflows.
