Software Engineer (Python) – Open Source Management

Job Description:

The Synopsys Central Engineering team brings standard processes and common solutions across business groups. Our goal is to scale operations and support engineering and software development for our products by identifying improvement opportunities, connecting insights across the product-development lifecycle, and providing management visibility for action. Key focus areas include quality, productivity, operational efficiency, compliance, product composition, and open source software management.

The primary mission for this position is to be a hands-on Software Engineer on the Open Source Management team, responsible for building and operating the automation that enables open-source incoming and management workflows at enterprise scale. The engineer will develop and maintain scripts, integrations, and tooling that support onboarding of new products, component intake, inventory accuracy, and operational execution of open-source processes.

The candidate will design and implement automation to:

• enable open-source intake and onboarding workflows for new products,
• integrate with internal systems and tools using APIs (including RESTful APIs),
• instrument workflows for operational visibility (status, completeness, and health),
• and maintain reliable tooling used by engineering teams.

The candidate will work closely with engineering teams and cross-functional partners (e.g., Legal, Engineering, DevOps) to deploy, operate, and continuously improve the scripts and automation used for open source management. This is a technical implementation role focused on robust, maintainable automation and tool ownership.

Requirements:

BS/MS with 5+ years of relevant experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience supporting engineering processes, tooling, or compliance initiatives.

Expertise & Skills:

The candidate must demonstrate:

• Strong hands-on experience with Python scripting.
• Hands-on software development experience building scripts and automation to support engineering or compliance workflows
• Experience working with APIs (including RESTful APIs) to integrate systems and automate tools and processes
• Knowledge of Linux development environments
• Excellent written and verbal English communication, ability to work independently, and strong collaboration skills

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:

• Open source software management and/or OSS compliance tooling and workflows
• Familiarity with data analytics tools and techniques
• Familiarity with data visualization tools
• Familiarity with software security, including open source management
