Role Description The Data Science Specialist role is a full-time, on-site position based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The specialist will work closely with product, engineering, and business teams to design and implement data-driven solutions that power SWAIRAX’s platforms, including predictive models, recommendation systems, and analytical dashboards. Day-to-day responsibilities include collecting and cleaning data from multiple sources, performing exploratory data analysis, building and validating statistical and machine learning models, and translating findings into actionable insights. The role also involves monitoring model performance, optimizing algorithms for production environments, and contributing to experimentation frameworks that improve user experience and business outcomes. Collaboration, documentation, and clear communication of complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders are essential.
Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Statistics and Data Science, including probability, hypothesis testing, and machine learning concepts.
• Demonstrated experience in Data Analytics and Data Analysis, with the ability to turn raw data into clear, actionable insights.
• Excellent Analytical Skills for problem framing, pattern detection, and decision support in product and business contexts.
• Proficiency with common data tools and languages (e.g., Python or R, SQL, data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau).
• Experience building and deploying models in production environments, ideally using cloud platforms and modern data pipelines.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
• Ability to work on-site in Dar es Salaam, collaborate in cross-functional teams, and communicate technical findings clearly.
• Familiarity with African markets or emerging market contexts, and interest in applying data science to locally relevant products.
