We are looking for a Data Product Owner lead the definition, prioritization, and delivery of enterprise data initiatives across the organization. The Data Product Owner is responsible for ensuring the development of high-quality, accessible, and compliant data products that support underwriting, risk management, regulatory reporting, and operational decision-making.
This role will work closely with assigned stakeholder groups across underwriting, program management, finance, actuarial, compliance, and technology teams to ensure data solutions align with business priorities and regulatory requirements. The position requires a strong understanding of P&C insurance data, regulatory reporting, and modern data management practices, combined with the ability to translate business needs into scalable data products and analytics capabilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define and prioritize enterprise data initiatives that support finance, actuarial, claims, compliance, program performance, and operational reporting.
- Serve as the product owner for key data domains and data products, maintaining roadmaps and prioritizing backlog items based on business value and regulatory needs.
- Partner with assigned stakeholder groups across claims, actuarial, finance, operations, and compliance to gather requirements and align data solutions with strategic objectives.
- Translate business requirements into clearly defined data product specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria for technical teams.
- Ensure data products meet standards for quality, accessibility, governance, and regulatory compliance across the organization.
- Collaborate with Technology, data engineering, and analytics teams to design and deliver scalable data solutions, dashboards, and reporting capabilities.
- Oversee the lifecycle of data products including requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing enhancement.
- Support insurance regulatory and bureau reporting initiatives (including statistical reporting such as NISS and other regulatory data submissions).
- Promote data governance, data quality, and standardized definitions across insurance program and operational data.
- Identify opportunities to improve underwriting insight, portfolio monitoring, and operational performance through enhanced data capabilities.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to ensure data initiatives align with enterprise architecture, security, and compliance frameworks.
- Act as a subject matter expert on P&C insurance data structures, reporting workflows, and regulatory data requirements.
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES
- Strong understanding of Property & Casualty insurance operations, including underwriting, claims, program management, and regulatory reporting.
- Ability to define and manage data products that support insurance decision-making and operational insight.
- Demonstrated experience translating complex business needs into data solutions, analytics, and reporting capabilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, risks, and opportunities within insurance data.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align business and technical teams.
- Experience working with data governance frameworks, data quality standards, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Proficiency with data tools such as SQL, PowerBI, reporting platforms, and business intelligence solutions.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment while delivering high-value data initiatives.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Data Analytics, Business, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 8+ years of experience in the Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance industry with strong exposure to underwriting, program business, regulatory reporting, and insurance data management.
- 5+ years of experience working with insurance data, analytics, or data product management.
- Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders and delivering enterprise data initiatives.
- Proficiency with SQL or similar data querying tools and experience working with modern data platforms and BI tools.
The target compensation for this role is $115,000-$125,000 annual base salary plus bonus
