About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to provide technical leadership across the CoverMyMeds Access Engineering portfolio. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Access Engineering, this role operates across multiple engineering teams and product domains, driving architectural consistency, engineering excellence, and strategic technical initiatives. The ideal candidate will be responsible for solving complex technical challenges, enhancing engineering effectiveness, and shaping the future of software development within Access Engineering. This position emphasizes organizational impact and technical leadership over individual coding contributions. Success will be measured by the influence on organizational outcomes, adherence to architectural standards, and the ability to foster innovation and excellence across teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience considered.
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including designing and building enterprise-scale software systems.
- Proven experience leading technical initiatives across multiple teams, products, or organizational boundaries.
- Experience designing distributed systems, APIs, integration platforms, or cloud-native applications.
- Ability to influence technical direction without formal management authority.
- Experience mentoring engineers and driving engineering best practices.
Responsibilities
- Define and influence architectural direction across the Access Engineering portfolio to ensure scalable, maintainable, and innovative solutions.
- Lead technical strategy for initiatives that span multiple products, systems, and teams, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Evaluate architectural tradeoffs and guide teams toward optimal technical solutions.
- Create reusable technical patterns, reference implementations, and establish engineering standards to promote consistency.
- Establish and promote best practices for software quality, reliability, security, observability, and maintainability.
- Assist teams in improving automated testing, production readiness, operational excellence, and system performance.
- Identify opportunities to enhance shared tooling, platform capabilities, and development workflows to improve developer productivity.
- Define and advance strategies for AI-assisted software development, partnering with enterprise AI teams to adopt standards and identify practical use cases.
- Mentor senior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
- Remain actively engaged in implementation details, contributing to software design, troubleshooting, and critical development efforts.
- Partner with engineering teams to solve complex technical and operational challenges, ensuring architectural decisions are practical and effective.
