About The Role

The Staff Machine Learning Engineer at Capital One is a senior technical leadership role responsible for driving the development, deployment, and scaling of machine learning applications within the organization. This position involves providing strategic guidance and technical expertise to engineering teams focused on productionizing machine learning models and systems at scale. The successful candidate will participate in all phases of the ML lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and optimization, ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability of ML solutions. They will serve as a domain expert in machine learning, influencing architectural decisions and best practices across teams. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Minimum of 10 years of experience designing and building data-intensive solutions using distributed computing
• At least 6 years of programming experience in C, C++, Python, or Scala
• Minimum of 3 years of experience managing the full ML development lifecycle in a business-critical environment
• Experience with cloud-based architectures and scalable ML deployment
• Strong understanding of data pipelines, model optimization, and performance tuning
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop engineering teams

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of machine learning models that address complex business challenges in the financial services sector
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Architecture, Engineering, and Data Science to deliver innovative ML solutions
• Drive the evolution of ML models and software to support intelligent, scalable systems
• Leverage cloud technologies and architectures to optimize ML model performance and scalability
• Optimize and maintain data pipelines that feed ML models for real-time and batch processing
• Promote best practices throughout the ML engineering lifecycle, including version control, testing, and deployment
• Mentor and develop engineering talent, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
• Stay informed about the latest advancements in machine learning and incorporate them into projects
