About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join the Safety Assurance for Effective Autonomous Driving Software (SAFE-ADS) department at GM. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing advanced data analytics and visualization tools that support the safety and performance assessment of autonomous driving systems. You will lead the creation of interactive safety dashboards and automated reporting solutions that enable stakeholders across technical and leadership levels to interpret complex safety data effectively. Your work will directly contribute to GM’s mission of delivering trustworthy automated-driving products by providing insights that enhance system safety, reliability, and continuous improvement. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of relevant experience in data science, analytics engineering, data visualization, or reporting
- Proficiency in Python and SQL programming languages, with experience in Python-based applications
- Experience developing complex, interactive visualizations and analytical applications using contemporary libraries
- Strong background in designing data models, analytical tables, data marts, and data pipelines
- Experience supporting hourly or intra-day data refreshes and ensuring application performance
- Ability to translate ambiguous stakeholder needs into clear analytical requirements and data products
- Practical understanding of statistical methods, including uncertainty, inference, comparison, and testing
- Proactive problem-solving skills and a continuous learning mindset
Responsibilities
- Design and develop interactive safety visualizations that enable users to analyze performance trends and drill down into detailed data
- Build and maintain dashboards and analytical applications that serve technical teams and executive leadership
- Create data marts, analytical tables, and other data products to support scalable visualization and reporting
- Define and implement business logic for metric aggregation, uptime measures, benchmarks, and supporting dimensions
- Develop and monitor data quality checks, assertions, and processes to ensure trustworthiness of published metrics
- Optimize data workflows for hourly or intra-day refreshes, ensuring reliable service-level performance
- Automate reporting processes that include metric definitions, data lineage, quality status, and statistical context
- Apply statistical techniques to characterize uncertainty, interpret variations, and perform performance comparisons
- Collaborate with safety engineers and technical stakeholders to understand analytical needs and deliver appropriate tools
- Communicate complex analytical insights through clear visual and written formats for diverse audiences
- Establish reusable patterns for visualization, data modeling, testing, and documentation to improve efficiency and consistency
