About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Backend Software Engineer to join our innovative engineering team. In this fully remote role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems that support our suite of collaboration tools. Your expertise will help unblock technical challenges across the software development lifecycle, from initial design to deployment, ensuring smooth and efficient product launches. You will lead complex architecture initiatives, establish best practices for code reviews, and mentor junior engineers to foster technical excellence within the team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the technical direction of our products and contribute to company-wide projects that impact millions of users globally. As a key member of our engineering organization, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions that meet customer needs and drive business success.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in software or technology leadership roles with end-to-end responsibility across the software development lifecycle
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (advanced degrees preferred)
• Expertise in one or more prominent programming languages such as Java, Python, Kotlin, Go, or Scala
• Hands-on experience with SaaS, PaaS, IaaS industry standards, and public cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Strong understanding of trade-offs related to correctness, robustness, performance, space, and time efficiency
• Proven experience in mentoring engineers and influencing decision-making processes at organizational levels
• Customer-centric approach to technical decision-making
• Experience in Developer Experience or Developer Productivity initiatives (preferred)
• Proficiency in Java or NodeJS (preferred)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools
• Additional language skills and cloud certifications are a plus

Responsibilities

• Regularly identify and resolve technical challenges encountered during the software development process, from design to deployment
• Develop scalable solutions that are utilized by multiple teams and products, and plan strategic approaches for large projects
• Address and solve complex architectural problems, applying and advocating for architectural standards in new projects
• Lead code reviews, ensure comprehensive documentation, and take responsibility for fixing high-risk bugs
• Set and uphold standards for meaningful code reviews across teams
• Collaborate with engineering teams on company-wide initiatives and projects
• Leverage your technical expertise to transfer knowledge and best practices within the team
• Mentor junior engineers, supporting their growth and development
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and technical standards
