Lead Software Engineer, Founding Team
At Sora Care, we’re on a mission to transform how in-home care is supported in America. Family caregivers shoulder billions of hours of unpaid work every year, often without the resources, guidance, or recognition they deserve. Our platform empowers these caregivers to access the programs, employment opportunities, training, and tools they need to provide safe, high-quality care at home. By combining compassionate human support with modern technology, we help families keep their loved ones in their homes and communities longer, while strengthening the workforce that powers America’s care ecosystem.
We’re at the earliest stage of our journey- designing and launching our first product, validating core workflows, and laying the technical and operational foundation for long-term growth. As our first engineer, you’ll shape the product, system architecture, and engineering culture from day one, joining a small, mission-driven team of builders who want to solve meaningful problems at national scale.
Key Responsibilities
As a Lead Software Engineer at Sora Care, you will:
- Build core product from 0→1: design and implement end-to-end features across mobile that directly shape the user experience.
- Design scalable, compliant infrastructure that supports high-growth operations across multiple U.S. states, each with unique regulatory and Medicaid program requirements.
- Work across the stack: Frontend: modern mobile frameworks (e.g., React Native / Flutter or similar) to build clean, responsive interfaces. Backend: APIs, services, and data models that are reliable, secure, and scalable.
- Own key technical decisions: participate in architectural choices, tooling, and patterns that will set the foundation for the next several years.
- Partner closely with non-engineers: partner with product, operations, and clinical stakeholders to translate messy, real-world problems into clear product and technical requirements.
- Own DevOps, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD pipelines, ensuring reliability and performance across our applications.
- Ship fast, safely: balance rapid iteration with the reliability, privacy, and safety expectations of a health-related product handling sensitive information.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership role.
- Experience in early-stage or high-growth companies; comfortable wearing multiple hats.
- Strong technical background in APIs, backend development, data modeling, infrastructure, and secure system design.
- Experience with healthcare, payments, or regulated environments (Medicaid HCBS, LTSS, consumer fintech, HIPAA, etc.) is a strong plus.
- Passion for building internal tooling, workflow automation, and the “boring but critical” infrastructure that keeps operations running smoothly.
- A bias for action - you ship quickly and responsibly, balancing speed and quality.
- Excellent communicator; able to translate complex requirements into actionable engineering plans.
- Mission-driven: excited about improving the lives of family caregivers across the U.S.
Preferred Experience:
- Background in home-care, caregiver programs, Medicaid waivers, EVV systems, or eligibility automation.
- Experience building low-code or no-code integrations for operational teams.
- Experience with on-call rotations and supporting production systems that families depend on.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary Range: 130K-190K, depending on experience
- Significant equity grant (You are part of the Founding Team)
- Health benefits
- Generous PTO & paid holidays
- Remote-first culture
- Opportunity to build industry-defining technology with real social impact
We're excited to hear from you! This is a rare opportunity to be an early engineer at a mission-driven, nationally scaling company addressing one of the most urgent challenges of our time: how America cares for its most vulnerable people.
