Website Designer & Developer (AI-Forward)

Location: Remote

Preferred Location: Philippines, open to other recommendations

Schedule: Full-time, M-F, with agreed overlap with Eastern Time

Compensation: $1000 - $1500

Probation: 3 months

Opportunity Overview

We are a marketing and website agency helping mental health therapists grow their practices through better messaging, strategy, branding, and website design.

We're looking for an exceptional Website Designer & Developer who combines outstanding visual design skills, technical expertise, and a genuine enthusiasm for AI.

We're looking for someone with a strong design eye, not just someone who knows how to use a website builder. Our websites are modern, polished, and tailored to each client's brand. We care about typography, spacing, imagery, visual hierarchy, and the details that make a website feel exceptional.

You'll work primarily with WordPress and Elementor, transforming approved copy and brand style guides into beautiful, functional websites.

We are an AI-forward company. We're actively exploring Elementor MCP and other AI-assisted development tools to improve how we build websites. We're looking for someone who is already experimenting with AI, eager to adopt new technology, and comfortable helping us evolve our processes.

We're particularly interested in candidates who also have graphic design experience, including creating brand style guides and simple logos.

We're Looking For Someone Who Naturally Asks

  • How could this design be more polished and engaging?
  • Does this layout make sense for the visitor?
  • Is there a more efficient way to build this?
  • How can AI help us produce better work?
  • What details or potential issues might I have missed?

If you're someone who takes pride in excellent design, enjoys solving problems, and can independently turn a creative direction into a beautiful website, this could be a great fit.

Role Summary

The Website Designer & Developer is responsible for designing, building, and refining client websites using WordPress and Elementor.

You'll work from approved content and brand style guides, making thoughtful decisions about layout, typography, imagery, and user experience.

You'll collaborate with our copywriters and internal team to build visually cohesive websites that are responsive, accessible, and technically sound.

AI will play an increasingly important role in your workflow. We expect you to explore new tools, adopt more efficient development methods, and maintain strong design judgment regardless of how the website is built.

This is a fast-paced agency environment with multiple projects moving through different stages. You'll need to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and consistently deliver excellent work.

We provide guidance and support, but we also value independence, initiative, and people who take ownership of their responsibilities.

Core Responsibilities

  • Website Design & Development
  • Design and develop websites primarily using WordPress and Elementor. This may change as AI continues to advance.
  • Transform approved copy, wireframes, and brand style guides into polished, cohesive website designs.
  • Make independent design decisions about typography, spacing, layout, imagery, colour, and visual hierarchy.
  • Build and customize homepages, service pages, therapist bios, team pages, blog templates, contact pages, and other website sections.
  • Create reusable templates and design elements where appropriate.
  • Actively use Elementor's Global Widgets, Global Fonts, and Global Colours to maintain consistent styling, improve efficiency, and make site-wide updates easier.
  • Ensure websites are fully responsive and optimized for desktop, tablet, and mobile.
  • Maintain visual consistency and a high standard of design quality throughout each project.
  • UI, UX & Accessibility
  • Apply strong UI/UX principles to create intuitive, engaging, and easy-to-navigate websites.
  • Consider the visitor's journey and use clear visual hierarchy and calls to action to encourage inquiries.
  • Follow accessibility best practices, including colour contrast, legible typography, appropriate image descriptions, and keyboard-friendly interactions.
  • Identify usability issues and recommend improvements before they become problems.
  • WordPress Development & Technical Implementation
  • Configure and customize WordPress and Elementor websites, including headers, footers, navigation, forms, and templates.
  • Troubleshoot layout, styling, responsiveness, and common WordPress issues.
  • Add and update therapist profiles, blog posts, and other website content.
  • Implement basic on-page SEO, including heading hierarchy, internal linking, image optimization, and page structure.
  • Optimize websites for performance and usability.
  • Thoroughly review and test websites before submitting them for internal or client feedback.
  • Image Selection & Visual Storytelling
  • Source and select high-quality imagery that aligns with each client's brand, audience, and messaging.
  • Consider image composition, cropping, colour, and placement to create a cohesive visual experience.
  • Avoid generic or poorly matched stock photography.
  • Use AI image tools and editing software when appropriate, while maintaining quality and appropriate usage rights.
  • AI-Assisted Design & Development
  • Use AI tools to improve the quality and efficiency of website design and development.
  • Work with or learn Elementor MCP and other emerging AI-assisted development workflows.
  • Explore new tools and processes that could make website production faster and more effective.
  • Apply independent judgment and quality assurance to AI-generated work.
  • Share useful discoveries and recommendations with the team as technology evolves.
  • Brand Identity & Graphic Design (Depending on Experience)

We're particularly interested in candidates who can also contribute to our branding services.

Potential Responsibilities Include

  • Project Management & Collaboration
  • Manage multiple client projects, prioritize effectively, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Communicate proactively about progress, questions, and potential delays.
  • Identify missing information, design concerns, or opportunities for improvement.

We'll provide a fictional therapist's brand style guide, approved website copy, and a brief outlining the target audience and project goals.

Your Assignment Will Include

  • Visual Judgment: Select appropriate imagery and demonstrate thoughtful use of typography, spacing, layout, and visual hierarchy.
  • Responsive Design: Ensure your finished section works beautifully on desktop and mobile, with appropriate adjustments for different screen sizes.
  • Strategic Thinking: Identify up to three design, usability, or content improvements you would recommend based on the materials provided.
  • AI Workflow: Briefly explain which AI tools you used, how they contributed to your workflow, and what you refined through your own design or technical judgment.

You'll be encouraged to use AI throughout the assignment, just as you would in this role. We're interested in the quality of your design, your technical execution, and your ability to work efficiently and independently.

We'll provide access to a test environment and clear expectations for the scope and time available. We're not looking for a complete website, but rather an opportunity to understand how you approach design, development, problem-solving, and emerging technology.
