Position Overview
SOLID is seeking a skilled and mission-aligned Data Scientist to join our team. This role supports both client delivery and internal product development efforts by extracting insights from complex datasets, analyzing workforce and transition trends, redefining business rules, and informing data-driven decision-making.
You will play a key role in sha ping analytical strategy across SOLID’s workforce solutions, influencing the design of both internal methodologies and external-facing products. You will work closely with analysts, AI/ML engineers, subject matter experts, and software developers to develop approaches for evaluating, aligning, and translating military occupations, credentials, and skills.
Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Methodology Development
- Clean, structure, and analyze large datasets to find patterns, trends, and anomalies.
- Evaluate workforce trends, skill gaps, and the effectiveness of prior learning assessments using transition data and credentialing systems.
- Support the redefinition of business rules and methodologies for military occupational analysis, including how occupational roles map to civilian pathways.
Decision Support & Business Intelligence
- Translate analytical findings into actionable business requirements that guide the design of data-informed products and decision-support tools for workforce development and credentialing.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and data visualizations using Power BI or Tableau to communicate findings clearly to stakeholders.
- Provide strategic data insights that support program evaluation, stakeholder reporting, and client decision-making.
Data Engineering & Management
- Extract and organize raw data from various structured sources, including SQL databases, APIs, and cloud-based systems.
- Write and optimize complex SQL queries involving multiple tables, joins (INNER, LEFT, RIGHT), subqueries, and aggregate functions (COUNT, SUM, AVG, etc.).
- Demonstrate working knowledge of data modeling, including understanding of primary and foreign keys and relational schema design.
Statistical Modeling & Machine Learning
- Apply statistical methods and predictive models (e.g., regression, classification, clustering, etc.) to forecast outcomes or assess the potential impact of rule/methodology changes.
- Leverage Python or R for data manipulation, modeling, and exploration using libraries like Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, and Scikit-learn or TensorFlow.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in data science, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience applying data science to real-world problems, preferably in government, workforce development, military, or education sectors.
- Strong proficiency in Python or R for data analysis and modeling.
- Demonstrated expertise in SQL, including the ability to write efficient, multi-step queries for large relational databases.
- Experience using Power BI and/or Tableau for building interactive dashboards and reporting visualizations.
- Familiarity with machine learning tools and methods for basic classification, clustering, or regression modeling.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate technical findings into non-technical insights for diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently to identify gaps, propose improvements, and drive data initiatives from concept to insight.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with military data (e.g., service records, training standards, occupational codes, etc.), credentialing frameworks, skills and competencies, and/or prior learning assessment methodologies.
- Familiarity with Agile development environments and working alongside cross-functional product teams.
- Knowledge of data privacy, security, and governance best practices, especially in federal or defense-aligned contexts.
