Functional Engineer who manages the process from contracted sale through file archive for a select set of C&I Solar/BESS Customers, working closely with Engineering, Installations, and Sales (or Prime Contractor) to keep the customer informed of their status, as well as completing all of the necessary paperwork to move their project through the pipeline for a smooth and positive experience. Oversee the construction process for commercial small utility photovoltaic systems, along with ancillary contracted electrical services and/or structural upgrades, etc., utilizing subcontracted installation crews. Ensure we construct the best possible contracted project for the lowest reasonable cost while maintaining quality and safety as the top priorities.

Salary range is based on exact mix of existing skills and experience working on projects substantially similar to our portfolio, which includes cash sales and PPA projects, many of which, we will own directly. Understanding of full project lifecycle and preinstallation project diligence is a strong plus.

Qualifications

  • OSHA30 Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Construction / Project Management, Engineering, or minimum of five equivalent years of experience in directly equivalent work position.
  • Solar: 2 years’ experience
  • Electrician: Journeyman License or equivalent experience Highly Preferred
  • Management, Operations: 2 years’ experience
  • Demonstrated ability in managing projects: installation, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Previous experience working with supplier, partner, client or customers in an operational capacity
  • Highly experienced with National Electric Code and Building Codes

Essential Responsibilities

  • Drive safely obeying all laws and Solarity polices
  • Ability to wear/utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Complete initial customer onboarding call to orient them to the IES process and collect critical information.
  • Become expert in customer’s individual contract inclusions/exclusions and ensure that all required items are met throughout the project lifecycle
  • Update customer as to necessary revisions and/or change orders based on AHJ & EDC specific requirements not included within their sales contract.
  • Be the internal customer advocate to ensure that their project receives appropriate attention, action, and reaction to issues.
  • Know the customer’s personality as to appropriately guide company/managers through possibly problematic situations with your portfolio of clients.
  • Document customer interactions and maintain records of all calls, e-mails, conversations, and other forms of communication relating to projects.
  • Be available to work in all reasonable weather conditions in all seasons to perform job functions.
  • Be a road warrior with overnight travel as required. Work related travel up to 50%.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Assess potential installation sites to determine feasibility and design requirements, evaluate provided designs for technical flaws or cost savings improvements.
  • Work with customer to collect all necessary/required items to proceed with project including documents, signatures, insurance policies, etc.
  • Communicate to customers on the company’s behalf and enforce company standards/policy while maintaining a positive relationship with the customer throughout the experience.
  • Manage proactive & reactive communication to sales consultants regarding their individual installations.
  • Prepare project scopes of work, project budgets, or schedules.
  • Solicit subcontractor bids and perform quantity, labor take-offs and estimate work.
  • Contribute with conceptual budgeting, bid preparation, client proposals, final estimates and cost analysis.
  • Plan and coordinate installations to ensure conformance codes.
  • Monitor work of contractors and subcontractors to ensure projects conform to safety, quality, plans, specifications, schedules, or budgets.
  • Provide technical assistance to electricians, installers, technicians, or other professionals in areas such as solar, electrical systems, and mechanical systems.
  • Identify means to reduce costs, minimize risks, or increase efficiency of projects.
  • Coordinate or schedule building inspections for projects.
  • Order ancillary construction materials from suppliers and coordinate deliveries of materials
  • Perform start-up of systems for testing or customer implementation.
  • Assess system performance or functionality at the system, subsystem, and component levels.
  • Evaluate subcontractors or subcontractor bids for quality, cost, and reliability.
  • Visit customer sites to determine system needs, requirements, or specifications.
  • Build client confidence in company and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain system architecture, including all piping, instrumentation, or process flow diagrams.
  • Purchase or rent equipment for system installation for current and future projects.
  • Ensure jobs are project ready before installation begins with all necessary materials, plans, permits, instruction manuals, & crew assignments.
  • Complete hardcopy and digital paperwork as necessary for post installation process with clients, EDC, customers, prime contractors, etc.
  • Repair, test, troubleshoot, inspect, install, remove and maintain solar equipment such as conduit, inverters, transformers, breakers, switchgear, and SCADA equipment.
  • Track pertinent, job-related documents and scan documents to the home office for review and document retention.
  • Arrange daily transportation to assigned work locations.
  • Ensure company policies are being followed and safety is the primary guiding principle.
  • Review & familiarize self and installation team with AHJ specific requirements for project installation.
  • Review & familiarize self and installation team with EDC specific requirements for project installation.
  • Work with Engineering on necessary revisions and/or change orders based on site conditions or customer requests not included within their sales contract.
  • Being able to effectively communicate and set expectations for the crew.
  • Being able to effectively communicate with locating companies, other crew leaders, other contractors, and any other persons working on the jobsite in order to establish clearly defined expectations and game plans.
  • Ensure that appropriate safety precautions are taken in all circumstances and at all times. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Insures all applicable permits and locates are complete and on site.
  • Maintain safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.
  • Use a tablet/smartphone, laptop, email, crew calendars, online reporting and other communication devices to adequately ensure that everyone is on the same page.
  • Work with confidential information and understand critical nature of privacy.
  • Work well under pressure and deadlines.
  • Work well with a variety of software packages across multiple computing platforms.
  • Have flexible availability based on ongoing work/task needs change.
  • Complete job-related paperwork and submit in an orderly timely manner to appropriate individual.
  • Follow all Solarity policies
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

Working Conditions

  • Travel up to 85% required - May live next to any reasonable airport in the country
  • Job may require working in all elements depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain or snow. Indoor and outside activities required.
  • Working in confined spaces such as crawl spaces and attics. Attic work may require working in extreme heat.
  • Working near power lines and electricity
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels, house pets or stray animals, construction areas and general public areas
  • Must be able to work from within a manufacturer’s rated weight capacity for all equipment including but not limited to ladders and aerial lifts. Note: Employees personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed weight limit of the equipment.
  • Must wear personnel protective equipment at all times as required.
  • Working at least 5 days a week for 8 hours a day plus any overtime.

Physical Requirements

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
