Junior/Middle Scala Software Engineer

About The Role

In this role, you will contribute to the modernization of security-focused backend systems, helping transition on-premises applications to AWS-based cloud architecture while building scalable data processing and analytics solutions used by millions of users worldwide. You will join a distributed engineering team developing next-generation cybersecurity products in partnership with a Silicon Valley technology leader.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and enhance backend services using Scala, Apache Spark, gRPC, and Akka to support security-focused products and large-scale data processing workloads
• Drive the modernization of existing on-premises applications, contributing to cloud transformation initiatives and improving scalability, performance, and maintainability
• Collaborate closely with client-side engineering, product management, and architecture teams to deliver high-quality solutions aligned with business and technical goals
• Build and optimize AWS-based cloud services and microservice architectures that support next-generation content security capabilities
• Develop and maintain data processing pipelines, analytical components, and metadata-driven services that improve security insights and system effectiveness
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including solution design, implementation, testing, code reviews, deployment, and ongoing support
• Contribute to engineering excellence by following Agile practices, continuously improving delivery processes, and sharing technical knowledge within the team
• Communicate effectively with a US-based team during daily meetings, reviews, and planning sessions, ensuring transparency and alignment across stakeholders
• Work within the 11:00–20:00 schedule by Kyiv time

Requirements

• Strong commercial experience with Scala in production environments
• Practical knowledge of Python for software development and automation tasks
• Hands-on experience with cloud-native microservice architecture and AWS services
• Strong expertise in Apache Spark, gRPC, and Akka frameworks
• Experience working with MySQL, HBase, and Databricks CDC
• Understanding of distributed systems, backend development principles, and scalable cloud solutions
• Experience working in Agile environments with iterative delivery approaches
• Strong communication skills and confidence collaborating with US-based teams in English
• Proactive, self-organized, and motivated mindset with readiness to contribute to long-term product development
