Senior Software Engineer - FinTech Platform

About the Role

Skyline Search Partners is partnering with a growing financial technology company to hire a Senior Software Engineer for its Platform Engineering organization. This engineer will help build core backend services supporting products that allow businesses to pay hourly employees and independent contractors more quickly, flexibly, and transparently. The company is bringing several critical financial capabilities in-house, including the development of a new financial ledger and scalable money-movement infrastructure. This is an opportunity to build foundational financial technology from the ground up—not simply maintain an established platform. The Senior Software Engineer will join a remote-first engineering organization with approximately 50 software engineers and collaborate within a smaller, product-focused team.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot
• Help develop a new financial ledger and other core money-movement capabilities
• Create cohesive, customer-facing RESTful APIs and domain-driven services
• Improve the performance, scalability, reliability, and uptime of backend systems
• Design and implement relational database schemas
• Conduct design and code reviews while promoting strong engineering standards
• Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, designers, customer success, and customer support
• Help establish architecture and engineering practices for products being built from the ground up
• Contribute to a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and collaborative problem-solving

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

Required Skills

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong experience building clean, well-architected, distributed, and scalable software
• Advanced Java development experience
• Experience building Java-based microservices with Spring Boot
• Experience designing and supporting customer-facing RESTful APIs
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, software design, and computer science fundamentals
• Experience designing and implementing relational database schemas using PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or a comparable database
• Experience with unit and integration testing tools such as JUnit and Mockito
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a remote, cross-functional team

Preferred Skills

• Experience building financial ledgers, payment platforms, digital wallets, banking systems, or money-movement products
• Experience working with highly accurate, auditable financial transaction data
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Git-based development workflows, SonarQube, and CI/CD environments
• Experience developing regulated or mission-critical financial products
• Experience building new platforms or products from the ground up

Pay range and compensation package

The anticipated base salary range is $160,000–$170,000. Compensation may vary based on the candidate’s experience, technical depth, education, and relevant expertise. Additional flexibility may be available for candidates with especially strong financial-ledger or payments-platform experience.
