About the role
Forward Deployed Engineers are the engineers who go to where the problem actually is. You'll embed with our most strategic customers, understand how their business genuinely operates, and then build — configure, extend, integrate, automate — whatever it takes to make Simple work brilliantly for them. You need to be a strong engineer who also loves being in the room with customers, understanding their constraints, and moving fast to solve real problems. This role exists at the edge between product and delivery, and it's one of the highest-leverage positions at the company.
What you'll do
- Work directly with strategic customers to understand their workflows in depth — not from a requirements doc, but from real conversations
- Build custom integrations, automations, and extensions on top of the Simple platform and API
- Configure and deploy Simple for each customer's specific context, data model, and workflow
- Act as the technical lead for your customer portfolio — you're accountable for their platform health and adoption
- Translate customer needs into precise product feedback that shapes what we build next
- Create internal playbooks and reusable patterns from every engagement so the next deployment is faster
- Be a trusted technical advisor — customers should feel like you understand their business as well as they do
What we're looking for
- 3+ years of engineering experience — you write solid code and you can pick up new systems quickly
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript or Python; comfortable with REST APIs, webhooks, and integration patterns
- You are as effective in a customer call as you are in a code review. Both things must be true.
- You can scope work accurately, work independently, and ship without waiting to be unblocked
- You're energized by customer problems, not drained by them
Nice to have
- Prior experience in solutions engineering, customer engineering, or professional services at a SaaS company
- Familiarity with ERP, CRM, or workflow automation systems and how enterprise data typically flows
- You've built integrations with systems like Salesforce, SAP, NetSuite, or similar — you know the pain
