They are a long-established organization with more than 25 years in practice and over $1 billion delivered in outcomes for clients. Unlike most in their field, they build their own software, using technology as a competitive advantage to create better client experiences.

They have already launched an MVP (minimum viable product) of their client portal. Next steps include expanding that portal into new use cases, building greenfield applications such as a record review tool, and integrating payments. They are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to lead this work.

Role And Responsibilities

In this role, you will take the lead in building and scaling applications that support both their clients and their internal teams. Your work will include:

• Evolving their client portal (MVP already launched) into a robust platform for communication and case management
• Building new greenfield applications, including a record review system for their analyst team
• Integrating secure payment solutions to streamline disbursements
• Collaborating closely with product and domain experts to ensure the tools you build solve complex, real-world challenges
• Owning features from design through deployment and ongoing operation, shipping frequently to gather feedback
• Establishing engineering standards and culture as one of the earliest members of a team that will scale significantly over time

Job Requirements

• 9+ years of software development, including consumer-facing apps with tens of thousands of users
• Extensive Ruby on Rails experience
• Strong modern JavaScript (React, Svelte, Vue, etc.)
• Cloud-native architecture expertise (Heroku or similar)
• Strong API integration skills
• Commitment to building excellent user experiences

Strongly Preferred

• Startup experience at a reputable company
• Experience with AI or generative AI in production environments

Nice To Have

• Salesforce development or API experience
• Document (PDF, image) data extraction
• Experience in regulated industries (Healthcare, Financial Services, etc.)
