A late-stage AI research and technology startup is building next-generation simulation and content creation systems that allow anyone to generate media across formats video, design, interactive environments, and more. The company’s goal is to transform how creative work is produced by combining large-scale generative models with real-time collaboration tools.

They are looking for a backend engineer to join a small, highly technical team responsible for building scalable APIs and backend infrastructure to support AI-driven media creation and processing. This is a hands-on engineering role with the opportunity to shape architecture decisions and collaborate closely with ML and product teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend systems and APIs for real-time collaboration and AI-powered media processing

• Own the end-to-end API lifecycle, including implementation, optimization, testing, and monitoring

• Implement robust authentication, rate limiting, and monitoring systems to ensure reliability at scale

• Collaborate with research and frontend teams to deploy and integrate generative AI models into production systems

• Continuously improve performance, reliability, and maintainability of existing backend codebases

Technical environment

• Primary languages: TypeScript (preferred), Python

• Frameworks and tools: PyTorch, TorchScript, Kubernetes (Flyte, Kueue, Kyverno), Terraform

• Cloud infrastructure: AWS (ECS, Fargate, S3, CloudFront, Lambda, Kinesis, SQS)

• Databases and monitoring: PostgreSQL, Prometheus, Grafana

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in backend or API-focused software engineering

• Strong programming experience with TypeScript or similar modern language

• Experience designing and optimizing PostgreSQL schemas and queries

• Background in building distributed or large-scale systems using AWS, GCP, or Azure

• Ability to prototype quickly and iterate on ideas in a fast-moving environment

• Comfortable working in a collaborative, high-ownership team setting
