Sew Liberated is seeking an experienced and values-driven marketing professional to plan, manage and execute our outreach to our community of sewists and slow-fashion enthusiasts.

You'll be joining a small, laid-back team and supporting our creative work by ensuring that the world finds out about it. Most of our growth to date has relied on word-of-mouth. While we have developed a handful of effective methods to reach our audience, you will have the opportunity to build new marketing systems from the bottom-up.

We are open to either a contract or part-time position, offering a competitive salary, benefits, and a healthy work-life balance.

You may be located in North Carolina (we're in the Triangle) or remote. Everyone on our team currently works from home, and we anticipate that you will too.

Sew Liberated started publishing sewing patterns and a blog in 2007, and we have recently expanded into online sewing courses.

We aim to challenge the fast fashion and overconsumption culture that prioritizes profit over people and planet. Instead, we champion slow, intentional living and the empowerment that comes from making your own clothes. Our brand is rooted in liberation—liberation from poorly fitting garments, from trends that don’t serve us, and from systems that prioritize consumption over creativity.

We believe in lifelong learning and our teaching is deeply rooted in a connection to the long lineage of women who have created so much with their hands. We honor the traditions and quiet ingenuity of makers who came before us, blending their knowledge with practical tools for today’s sewists and inviting them into a shared history of resourcefulness, artistry, and care. Our goal is to make sewing approachable for everyone, whether they’re starting their first garment or refining their skills to create pieces that fit their body and their life. Through our patterns, courses, and community, we aim to nurture curiosity, growth, and joy in the process.

We expect that you will come to us with your own ideas. But we anticipate that our new Director of Marketing will:

  • Embrace and articulate Sew Liberated's core values.
  • Propose and plan marketing strategies, including budgeting, identification of key performance indicators, and reporting based on analytics data.
  • Build and maintain business systems and processes to ensure that we, as a team, fulfill our outreach goals.
  • This will include email automations, sales funnels, marketing calendars, and so on. We are a small team, so you should expect to directly carry out many aspects of delivering on our marketing vision. Depending on your skill set, this may include writing, editing, graphic design, web design, email design, social media management, photography, videography, etc.
  • Coordinate and manage the marketing-related work of others on our team.
  • Evaluate and implement paid ad campaigns.
  • Plan and coordinate pattern releases and course launches.
  • Identify and work with collaborators throughout the sewing industry. For example, this includes outreach with sewing publications as well as identifying organic social media content to highlight.
  • Identify and help produce potential new products.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • At least 5 years of experience with and a passion for online marketing, including e-commerce, social media and email/SMS marketing.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead others and take both initiative and final responsibility for significant lines of business.
  • A high level of attention to detail and organization.
  • Experience putting marketing analytics to good use.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and a warm online presence.

Bonus points for:

  • Familiarity with online sewing communities, the needs of home sewists, and related trends.
  • Technical sewing knowledge.
  • Familiarity with MailChimp, Wordpress, ClickUp, Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Specific marketing skills, such as photo or video editing, graphic design, or filming.

To apply, please send a resume, cover letter, and 1-3 relevant examples of your work to jobs@sewliberated.com. We look forward to learning more about you!
