Software & Integration Engineer (Fixed Wing specialist/ VTOL Systems)

ROLE:- Abu Dhabi-based Permanent role – Relocation required.

(Base salary is equivalent to 150,000 to 160,000 Euro’s (in Western Europe) + Bonus + Benefits

My client is building out their Industrialisation and Development UAV/Drone Robotics team, This team is a multidisciplinary engineering team (Made up of 80+ Natialities) and amazing robotics/UAV engineeris, dedicated to advancing aerial robotics for civil and defence based projects.

You must have C++ experience.

A great role for someone with 6-18 months Fixed Wing UAV/UAS experience that wants to further explore and develop engineering skills.

The focus of this role is on bringing together hardware, software, and research innovations into fully operational systems. You’ll be instrumental in evolving early-stage concepts into flight-ready prototypes suitable for practical deployment.

Key Responsibilities:

YOU MUST HAVE VTOL/FIXED WING experience for this role.

Flight Control Systems:

Configure, calibrate, and optimise flight control units across various fixed-wing and VTOL platforms to ensure reliable and responsive performance.

Some experience in Payload Integration:

Implement and test a range of sensor and actuator payloads — such as optical, multispectral, and thermal imaging systems; LiDAR and radar sensors; environmental data collectors; and specialised tools for precision tasks.

Autonomy & Mission Execution:

Adapt and integrate autonomy frameworks and SDK-driven control systems to support automated missions and self-directed flight operations.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education: Master’s degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline. Or PhD in similar.

Experience:

Min 1year in Fixed Wing Projects

Minimum of 1-2 years in UAV integration, flight control development, or embedded systems for aerial platforms.

Autopilot Systems & Frameworks:

Practical experience with open-source or commercial flight control software such as PX4, ArduPilot, or DJI SDKs, as well as simulation and middleware tools (e.g., Gazebo, ROS2).

Programming & Scripting:

Must have strong background in C++, and any Python (is a bonus) for embedded applications, integration testing, and automation workflows.

System-Level Knowledge:

Hands-on understanding of different UAV configurations, communication protocols, and integration methods for avionics and payloads.

Technical Competence:

Skilled in debugging, testing, and validating complex hardware–software interactions within flight control and simulation environments.

Desirable (Nice-to-Have):

Experience as a certified UAV operator or pilot with a practical flight testing background.
