As we continue our mission to be the market-leading underwriting software platform for agile insurers, we are excited to kick off the search for a Engineering Manager.
As the Engineering Manager at Send, you’ll be given the opportunity to lead a cross-functional team of engineers, providing strong technical leadership and guiding the delivery of valuable products and services to Send’s customers. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, maintainable code and ensuring the team achieves their committed sprint goals.
Your role will involve coaching and mentoring cross-functional engineers and continuously improving agile practices and ways of working. Additionally, you’ll play a key role in influencing the technology strategy and leveraging data to drive improvements across the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

Our Funding
From 2017 to 2022, we bootstrapped our growth journey, transforming into a profitable and stable company. In November 2022, after a year of customer and team growth, we successfully obtained $10m in Series A funding to accelerate our expansion in the UK and US and our product development. We enjoy the support and expertise of our investors, Mercia and Breega.
We are currently preparing our Series B funding round, and looking forward to the growth acceleration this will facilitate.
The Send Team
In the past year, Send has experienced remarkable team growth, expanding by over 50% to a team of 80+. At the start of 2024, our team was based in the UK and Poland. We’ve taken significant strides towards establishing a global presence and now have team members across the US and India, all working collaboratively to be the market-leading underwriting software platform for agile insurers.
What You’ll Be Doing as an Engineering Manager
- Team Leadership: Lead a cross-functional team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
- Coaching and Mentoring: Coach and mentor engineers, supporting their professional growth and development.
- Sprint Delivery: Ensure the team delivers sprint goals and commitments.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership to guide system design and architecture, ensuring alignment with defined standards.
- Backlog Management: Work with the product manager to balance the team's backlog, prioritising both the technical and product roadmaps.
- Code Quality: Ensure the team delivers high-quality, testable, and maintainable code.
- Non-Functional Requirements: Ensure solutions meet non-functional requirements, such as security, reliability, and performance.
- Agile Practices: Continuously improve the team's ways of working and agile practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Technology Strategy: Influence the technology strategy, aligning it with the company's goals and vision and the product strategy.
- Data-Driven: Capture data on all aspects of the team's performance and health to drive continuous improvement.
- Developer Experience: Identify and address friction points across the SDLC to improve the developer experience and enhance productivity.
The Skills and Experience Needed for the Engineering Manager Role
- Proven experience as a senior software engineer and Engineering Manager (or similar leadership role) within a technology-driven environment.
- Strong technical background with experience in system design and architecture.
- Excellent coaching and mentoring skills, with a focus on supporting engineers' professional growth.
- Demonstrated ability to balance technical and product priorities.
- Deep understanding of agile methodologies and best practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and departments.
- Experience in ensuring solutions meet non-functional requirements such as security, reliability, and performance.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to leverage data to drive continuous improvement.

Interview Process
Our recruitment process for the Engineering Manager role will consist of three interviews.
- Stage 1 - Intro call with our in-house recruiter, Liam (30 minutes) - This will cover your background, motivations and communication, along with a chance to get to know Send and the role better.
- Stage 2 - Interview with Christine Ramsden, Head of Engineering and Chris Newton, CTO (45 minutes)
- Stage 3 - Technical & leardership interview with one of our Tech Leads, Engineer and Sarah Wilkins, Head of Quality (1 hour)
