Role: Lead UX Designer
Rate: £700 p/d (Via Umbrella)
Location: Remote (UK Based)
Duration: 3 months initial – extensions highly likely
We’re looking for an experienced Lead UX Designer with a strong background in Service Design to lead a talented, multidisciplinary design team across six concurrent discovery projects.
You’ll be responsible for shaping and driving the user experience and service design direction for each discovery, ensuring user-centred design principles are at the heart of every output.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead and set the UX and interaction design approach across six discoveries.
- Manage and mentor a team of three Service Designers guiding them through discovery and concept development.
- Create and test interaction design concepts that address key user needs and business goals.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional Scrum teams, including researchers, developers, product managers, and delivery leads.
- Ensure alignment with GDS standards and best practice in user-centred design.
- Contribute to a high proportion of international design work, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility across diverse user groups.
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience leading UX and Service Design across multiple complex discovery projects.
- Strong background in interaction design, prototyping, and user testing.
- Deep understanding of GDS principles, agile delivery, and government service design standards.
- Experience managing and mentoring other designers in multidisciplinary environments.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
