ABOUT SAMESAME:
SameSame is a non-profit startup dedicated to finding ways digital technologies can support the mental health of LGBTQI+ youth, especially in places where it's difficult or even dangerous to be different. Our first product—a WhatsApp chatbot that offers a self-guided cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) course—has been recognized as a potentially groundbreaking innovation by Pinterest, MIT Solve, WhatsApp's Chat for Impact Accelerator, Mozilla Foundation, and Fast Forward.
We are a small but highly experienced team that has come together to build what we wish we had when we were growing up. Now, we're expanding our reach to Nigeria, and we need someone who can help us connect with local communities effectively.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We're looking for a marketing professional with a creative mindset and strong execution skills to lead the localization and growth of our WhatsApp chatbot in Nigeria. The ideal candidate will balance innovative thinking with practical results, helping us adapt our existing product to resonate with Nigerian youth while navigating sensitive cultural contexts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
For the Launch Phase:
- Lead the localization strategy for our WhatsApp chatbot in Nigeria, beginning with translation into Pidgin
- Collaborate with creative professionals to develop a local brand identity (name, logo, visual elements)
- Establish and manage social media presence specific to Nigeria
- Design and implement digital promotional campaigns to drive user adoption
- Create culturally relevant content that speaks authentically to Nigerian youth
- Recruit and manage a Youth Advisory Panel to provide ongoing feedback
- Work with local clinical experts to ensure our content aligns with clinical best practices in Nigeria
Ongoing:
- Monitor campaign performance and optimize marketing strategies based on data
- Coordinate with the product team to incorporate Nigerian user feedback
- Maintain consistent brand voice across all channels while respecting cultural nuances
- Manage marketing budget for Nigerian operations
- Build and manage relationships with local organizations to expand our reach
- Oversee translation into additional Nigerian languages (Hausa, Yoruba, etc.) as we expand
- Develop and implement communications strategies that address sensitive topics through appropriate euphemism and implicit messaging
- Effectively manage and respond to potential hostile reactions online
- Compile, vet, and maintain a database of safe local resources for users
- Provide regular reports on growth metrics and market insights
REQUIREMENTS:
Experience:
- 3+ years of digital marketing experience in the Nigerian market
- Proven track record in launching or growing digital products
- Experience with social media campaign management and content creation
- Excellent communication skills with ability to navigate sensitive topics tactfully
- Fluency in Nigerian Pidgin and English (additional Nigerian languages a plus)
- Data-driven approach to marketing with experience using analytics tools
- Creative problem-solving abilities and resourcefulness
- Understanding of mental health issues affecting youth (preferred)
- Experience building and managing community advisory groups
Specific Requirements:
- Based in Nigeria with deep understanding of local cultural contexts
- Reliable internet connection and personal computer and smartphone
- Availability for meetings with team members across multiple time zones
- Experience with digital marketing tools (social media platforms, analytics, content creation)
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive communications with discretion
