The Company

We're working with a mission-led organisation working at the intersection of climate resilience, technology, data, and financial services. Backed by some of the country’s largest financial institutions, government agencies, and global partners. Their platform is already in use nationally and is now evolving into a scalable SaaS solution with strong commercial potential and international interest. They've proven their data models work, secured deep industry engagement and funding, and now need an experienced product leader to scale their impact globally, modernise their systems, and guide delivery across a new suite of digital tools.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and pragmatic Data Scientist with a hybrid skill set across data science, AI engineering, and data infrastructure. This is a pivotal role within a globally significant data platform, where you will transform data and models into scalable, high-impact products and insights that deliver real-world value, accelerating climate adaptation and resilience investment.

As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for enhancing and scaling models, calculators, dashboards, APIs, and decision-support tools. This role requires a versatile data professional who thrives at the intersection of data science, analysis, engineering, and AI/ML, with a proven ability to deliver data-driven products in a high-impact environment.

It's a small team with a start-up nature, and is this will be the first Data Science hire for the company, you will need to be comfortable taking things from concept to reality. The role is open to all of Australia with some travel, as they offer remote working with once-a-month in person meetings in Melbourne.

The team will rely on you to:

  • Create high-value data products and insights that improve outcomes for users.
  • Design, build, and improve core data products – including calculators, assessment engines, reporting tools, and insights APIs – using data science, logic design, and modern tooling.
  • Apply AI/ML and data science techniques to generate insights and automate backend intelligence using data and models.
  • Build robust, scalable systems and pipelines to power SaaS tools, dashboards, and APIs in collaboration with the engineering team.
  • Contribute to features that support scale, usability, and impact across multiple tools, use cases, and regions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally by working closely with product managers, analysts, and developers to translate data and models into impactful outcomes.

Initial priorities:

  • Deliver enhancements to data-driven calculators, assessment tools, and dashboards
  • Produced new high-value insights from proprietary data and models
  • Build and improve pipelines and systems that power SaaS and reporting solutions

Ideally you have:

  • 5+ years experience in data science or AI/ML roles delivering real product outcomes.
  • Hands-on skills in Python and SQL.
  • Experience with APIs, data pipelines, and backend integration in product environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate data and models into practical tools, dashboards, or decision-support products.
  • Strong foundation in statistical modelling, logic design, or algorithm development.
  • Familiarity with any of the following tools or frameworks: AWS, Docker, dbt, Airflow, Snowflake, LangChain, Streamlit, Dash, Tableau.

Bonus points if you also have:

  • Experience building or scaling data-powered, user-facing applications.
  • Experience in SaaS, data platforms, or analytics product environments.
  • Background in insurance, finance, climate, infrastructure, or property sectors.
  • AI/ML experience including NLP, predictive modelling, or generative AI.
