Job Description:
The Localization team is seeking an experienced Localization Engineer to address Uber's expanding localization requirements. In this role, you will collaborate closely with our Localization Program Managers (LPgMs), Localization Operations (LocOps) to swiftly and effectively prepare projects and programs for localization.
Minimum qualifications
Education: BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of localization engineering experience in the high-tech industry, either on the client or vendor side.
At least 1 year of experience in machine learning and/or proficiency in programming languages such as Python, with hands-on experience in relevant libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers).
Technical Skills:
Cloud Platforms: Basic knowledge of AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Containerization: Familiarity with technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Jupyter Notebook.
Programming: Understanding of scripts such as Python, Perl, or JavaScript.
Localization Tools: Expertise in using CAT tools and setting up localization pipelines & workflows (e.g., Phrase/Memsource, Smartling, Trados).
Multimedia Projects: Experience working with audio and multimedia projects and setting up localization/delivery processes.
Post-Delivery Automation: Managing post-delivery automation tasks as needed (file counts, naming conventions, encoding, etc.).
Bug Routing & Ticket Management: Experience using tools such as JIRA and Phabricator.
Content Management:
Localization Coordination: Experience in coordinating the localization of various content types, including UI, Help Center, Marketing, and Legal.
Quality Assurance: Managing and running linguistic QA processes, identifying issues/gaps, and ensuring high-quality deliverables.
Soft Skills:
Attention to Detail: Very detail-oriented and quality-focused, with a proactive approach to identifying issues.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and localization quality assurance (LQA) tasks simultaneously.
Teamwork: Excellent team player with the ability to manage operations at scale.
Technical Proficiency: Capable of managing technical processes and advising on best practices for internationalization (i18n) and localization (l10n) QA/testing.
Adaptability: Ability to learn new tools and systems quickly.
