About Rewiring America

Rewiring America is the leading electrification nonprofit, founded to make electrification simple, measurable, and inevitable. We put American households at the center of an affordable, resilient, all-electric future. We partner with policymakers, industry leaders, manufacturers, workers, and communities to strengthen the electric grid, lower energy prices, and build homegrown energy solutions for all.

We are incubating a program at Rewiring America that we call “Conductor.” We are seeking hyperscaler funding to catalyze a new scalable model and market for electrification upgrades. We will offer residential electric upgrades like heat pumps, solar, and batteries at a much lower cost with a far better customer experience, all funded by unlocking the energy value of those upgrades to the grid. We will prove this model and scale it nationally.

About The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer adept in both software product design and service design to craft the design of the digital experience and service experience of subsidized, high quality home upgrades at scale. This is a unique opportunity to shape a 0→1 product and see it launch quickly in market. This requires designing the end-to-end user journey, including the management of a workflow, collection of program data, and interfaces for the household, contractor, customer support rep, and program manager. The first launch of the platform will be in service of ~500 heat pump, heat pump water heater, and battery installations in a major metro area by the end of 2026, and there’s a path to expansion beyond that initial market. This project is greenlit by a large utility and will be paid for by a hyperscaler.

This fixed-term role will own the design process from concept through to post-launch iteration, operating with a high degree of autonomy and reporting to the VP of Product & Strategic Growth (also the PM). You’ll have significant ownership and the ability to make visible, meaningful impact in a short period of time. You will partner closely with engineering to translate real customer needs into a simple, delightful, and scalable experience. This six-month, fixed term position will be a strong fit for someone who thrives in ambiguity, moves quickly, and enjoys building from the ground up in a small, focused team - and wants to make a tangible impact on a product in just six months.

What You'll Do

  • Own the end-to-end design of the combined digital and service experience, delivering user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes to quickly build a new product from scratch
  • Understand user needs and conduct scrappy user testing at various points of the development process
  • Identify opportunities for unexpected delight in the process and turn them into signature product or service features
  • Leverage and contribute to a nascent design system for consistency and speed
  • Collaborate deeply with product, engineering, marketing, support, and operations counterparts to clarify and improve the program design
  • Utilize AI tools where appropriate to accelerate the work
  • Drive post-launch iteration based on usage data and user feedback
  • Step into whatever is needed to get the job done—this is a highly independent and entrepreneurial role

Who You Are

The person who will thrive in this role is looking for high ownership and autonomy. You’ll have the opportunity to do meaningful work that supports electrification and energy transition efforts and shape a 0→1 product that has real impact on households, communities, and the climate. The perfect candidate can flex across product and service design adeptly and has a knack for finding creative ways to simplify complex interactions.

Core Qualifications

  • 6-8+ years experience as a Product/UX Designer, with a strong portfolio in digital and service design projects
  • Experience owning the design process from concept to launch
  • Experience with service design methodologies (e.g., journey mapping) across multi-channel experiences, especially products that manage a transition between the digital and physical worlds
  • Experience designing complex workflow tools and interfaces for multiple users in the same product
  • Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma) and using AI to accelerate the design process
  • Comfort owning scope, making decisions, and working independently with high autonomy
  • Strong remote collaboration and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some front-end development or prototyping experience – with JavaScript frameworks such as React, or equivalent
  • Content knowledge or experience in energy, building electrification, residential real estate, construction, home improvement or other domains with connection to residential buildings
