2. About the Opportunity:
The Staff Software Engineer, Shopper Activation & Engagement will lead the technical strategy and architecture for the shopper activation domain. This role drives critical systems such as onboarding optimization, waitlist management, supply controls, and compliance workflows. The position directly impacts shopper supply, marketplace efficiency, and sustainable growth. It requires close collaboration with multiple teams and vendors to deliver scalable, secure, and high-quality solutions. The role is suited for someone who thrives in dynamic, cross-functional environments and enjoys solving complex technical challenges.
3. Responsibilities:
- Define and lead end-to-end technical strategy and architecture for shopper activation systems
- Partner with Product and Design to guide onboarding funnel optimization, waitlist management, and supply incentives
- Deliver compliance and vendor-related initiatives, building privacy-focused, auditable, and observable systems
- Manage large cross-functional programs, translating ambiguous requirements into clear technical plans and removing obstacles
- Mentor engineers through design reviews, code quality, and technical standards to raise team capabilities
- Enhance reliability, performance, and cost efficiency; enforce service level objectives and promote secure, AI-augmented development practices
4. Requirements:
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with large-scale distributed systems or high-traffic services
- 3+ years leading end-to-end architecture and technical strategy for a product or domain
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives across multiple teams under tight deadlines
- Proficient in backend languages such as Go, Java, or Python, and familiar with cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP) and data stores (Postgres, DynamoDB, Redis)
- Experience building AI tooling or automation integrated into developer workflows or products
- Skilled in designing compliant systems involving identity, eligibility, or sensitive workflows with strong privacy and security practices
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing engineers through design guidance and code reviews
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience collaborating with Legal or Policy teams on compliance and regulatory requirements
- Background in managing third-party vendors, establishing SLAs, and executing zero-downtime migrations
- Familiarity with experimentation platforms and analytics to improve supply and conversion metrics
- Experience building mobile-first products or working closely with mobile platform teams
- Knowledge of trust & safety, fraud prevention, or background screening systems in large marketplaces
- Experience in marketplace, logistics, rideshare, or gig-economy sectors
