2. About the Opportunity:
The Staff Software Engineer, Search will lead the development of critical backend services and data infrastructure powering the organization’s advanced search platform. This role focuses on transforming the search experience into an intelligent, intent-driven system using modern technologies such as embeddings, large language models, and sophisticated ranking methods. The position plays a key role in shaping the search strategy and engineering standards, ensuring scalable, high-performance, and patient-centered search capabilities.
3. Responsibilities:
• Architect and build core backend services, APIs, and data pipelines for the next-generation search platform.
• Redesign data ingestion and indexing workflows for provider, availability, and content information.
• Optimize low-latency query processing across tier-1 search, vector search, and ranking systems.
• Integrate ML model serving, embedding generation, and ranking signals into production backend services.
• Guide architectural direction and engineering standards through documentation, technical reviews, and mentorship.
• Mentor engineers on best practices in backend development, distributed systems, and API design.
• Implement observability measures to monitor and improve performance, reliability, and data freshness.
4. Requirements:
• Proven experience owning and scaling complex, high-traffic backend platforms with distributed systems expertise.
• Proficiency in C# / .NET or similar backend frameworks, emphasizing performance and concurrency.
• Experience designing and operating large-scale data pipelines and stream-processing workflows.
• Strong knowledge of AWS services and cloud-native infrastructure patterns including ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS/SNS, Kinesis, OpenSearch, and S3.
• Familiarity with search technologies, vector databases, embedding models, and ML model serving at production scale.
• Excellent communication skills to align cross-functional teams.
• Commitment to mentoring and raising technical standards.
• Experience designing highly available, fault-tolerant systems in latency-sensitive environments.
