2. About the Opportunity:
The Staff Software Engineer - Fraud will play a key role in developing and maintaining core systems that support fraud prevention and risk assessment. This position is responsible for leading architectural efforts, driving project delivery across teams, and ensuring high reliability and low latency in backend systems that enable real-time fraud scoring and decisioning. The role also involves close collaboration with data science and machine learning teams to operationalize models and improve automated risk detection. This position impacts the security and trustworthiness of the business onboarding process and the overall experience of new clients.
3. Responsibilities:
• Lead architecture, implementation, and roadmap for core fraud prevention systems
• Manage end-to-end delivery of complex cross-functional projects with a focus on strategy and execution
• Design, build, and operate highly available, low-latency backend systems for real-time fraud decisioning
• Collaborate with Data Science and ML teams to productionize models and build reliable data pipelines
• Establish and promote engineering best practices and review architectural designs
• Mentor engineers and share technical knowledge through documentation, meetings, and 1:1s
• Influence multiple stakeholders and resolve cross-team issues independently
4. Requirements:
• 7-10+ years of software development experience, primarily backend
• Experience as a technical lead with a track record of architectural decision-making
• Knowledge of or strong interest in learning Haskell
• Product-minded with experience launching reliable, fast-moving products
• Comfortable working in ambiguous areas and driving outcomes with empathy
• Strong mentor who proactively shares knowledge and supports team growth
• Experience in fintech, fraud systems, or risk management is a strong plus
5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:
• US employees (any location): $239,000 - $298,800
• Canadian employees (any location): CAD 225,900 - 282,400
