2. About the Opportunity:
The Senior Software Engineer, Data Engineering role is focused on advancing the organization’s data strategy by designing and maintaining robust data systems. This position contributes to improving key product experiences such as Search and Checkout, and supports data-driven decision-making across various teams. The role involves technical leadership, development of scalable data pipelines, and collaboration with cross-functional partners to enhance data quality and product outcomes that impact millions of users daily.
3. Responsibilities:
• Design, build, and maintain efficient data pipelines processing diverse data sources
• Develop data models to support data analysis and merchandising optimization
• Build scalable pipelines using SparkSQL, Scala, and Airflow scheduler/executor frameworks
• Collaborate with Data Scientists, Product Managers, and Engineers to define data solutions
• Contribute to data engineering community efforts to improve tooling and standards
• Enhance code and data quality through internal tools for issue detection and mitigation
4. Requirements:
• 5+ years industry experience with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or 2+ years with a PhD
• Experience with distributed processing frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, and storage systems like HDFS or S3
• Ability to analyze large data sets to identify issues and support product solutions
• Expertise with ETL schedulers including Apache Airflow, Luigi, Oozie, AWS Glue, or similar
• Strong understanding of data warehousing and hands-on experience with relational and columnar databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redshift, BigQuery, HBase, ClickHouse)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
