2. About the Opportunity:
The Senior Data Scientist - Shopping Experience (Search) is responsible for leading analytics and experimentation for the search function, which helps customers find relevant items and retailers quickly. This role influences the roadmap for search relevance, ranking, and performance, providing insights that enhance customer experience and business outcomes such as search conversion and order rate.
3. Responsibilities:
• Manage core search metrics and funnels end to end, including monitoring and diagnosing performance across platforms.
• Design, execute, and interpret experiments related to search ranking, retrieval, and user experience.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Machine Learning teams to prioritize and size impact of search improvements.
• Conduct detailed analyses to identify causes of search underperformance and recommend concrete enhancements.
• Align offline model evaluations with online business metrics to ensure improvements translate to user experience.
• Enhance data quality, instrumentation, and metric definitions for search performance clarity.
4. Requirements:
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in data science or product analytics impacting consumer-facing products.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL for large-scale data analysis.
• Skilled in Python or R for analysis, experimentation, and modeling.
• Experience in designing and analyzing A/B tests end to end.
• Ability to define success metrics and provide clear recommendations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field or equivalent practical experience.
• Familiarity with modern AI tools to enhance analysis and communication.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with search relevance, ranking, recommendations, personalization, or information retrieval.
• Knowledge of NLP, embeddings, semantic search, and production evaluation.
• Experience connecting offline evaluation metrics with online and business outcomes.
• Background in advanced causal inference techniques.
• Comfort working across web and native app platforms, balancing relevance, monetization, and latency.
• Proven ability to improve logging, instrumentation, and metric definitions in complex data environments.
