About the Opportunity:
This opportunity involves leading software engineering for client applications on Roku streaming devices and smart TVs. The role is part of a team responsible for building and advancing digital and streaming products, focusing on delivering high-quality user experiences across major streaming platforms.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain client app experiences in BrightScript using the Roku SceneGraph SDK
• Build new application features including on-boarding, UI/UX, analytics, and video playback
• Contribute to tools and systems outside Roku apps, such as JavaScript and React-based web tools, gulp build scripts, AWS configurations, and Node.js services
• Collaborate with Roku on hardware, firmware, and certification requirements
• Work closely with SDK engineering, design engineering, services engineering, and product owners to understand requirements and device limitations
Requirements:
• Minimum 7 years of client-side development experience, with at least 2 years in BrightScript
• Experience with MVVM architecture
• Skilled in designing reusable utilities and UI components for multiple applications
• Experience mentoring junior team members
• Experience creating performant user interfaces, including pixel-perfect designs and animations
• Knowledge of user interface-level code, patterns, and architectures for data-driven UX
• Familiarity with set-top boxes or Smart TV development and troubleshooting
• Experience supporting a range of devices with varying capabilities
• Configuration-driven development experience
• Performance optimization and feature degradation technique experience
• Experience creating and extending templated and custom controls
• Proficient with asynchronous and concurrent code
• Unit testing experience
• JavaScript client and server-side development experience
• Experience with DevOps, gulp scripts, Jenkins, and AWS
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or equivalent experience
Compensation:
• The hiring range for this remote position is $145,000 to $194,400 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
