Data Scientist - Risk and Trading (Daily Fantasy Sports)

About the Opportunity:

This team is a rapidly growing sports platform in the US, specializing in Fantasy Sports. The product portfolio includes a variety of free-to-play Fantasy Sports and real money Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) games and applications across multiple sports leagues, including the NFL, NBA/WNBA, MLB, NHL, EURO, and upcoming offerings. The role seeks a Data Scientist with DFS or Sportsbook experience to support risk and trading functions.

Responsibilities:

• Support risk and liability management for DFS operations through data analysis and modeling.

• Develop predictive models and algorithms to assess real-time liability and risk exposure.

• Perform data wrangling, processing, cleaning, and design monitoring tools for performance and accuracy.

• Monitor pricing for real-time odds, player statistics markets, breaking news, and adjust markets accordingly.

• Ensure timely and accurate recording of data from external partners.

• Build and maintain user risk profiles, collaborating with product and engineering teams to enhance personalization.

• Automate risk and trading processes to support growth across users, sports, and markets.

• Contribute to research and innovation in risk and trading functions.

Requirements:

• Background in computer science, data science, machine learning, mathematics/statistics, or related field with experience handling large data sets.

• In-depth knowledge of DFS, sports betting, player props, handicapping, expected value, and closing line value.

• Experience with high volumes of DFS/sports betting and real money games as a trader, +EV bettor, or oddsmaker.

• Proactive mindset, comfortable building processes from scratch and challenging traditional risk management approaches.

• Flexibility to work off hours including nights and weekends aligned with sports calendar peaks.

• Proficiency in SQL, Python, or related tools; experience with databases, data warehouses, visualizations, and reporting.

• Experience with player performance metrics, game outcome predictions, in-game event modeling, and real-time sports data feeds/APIs.

Compensation:

• Base salary range for new hires is between $75,000 USD to $150,000 USD, plus benefits.
