Mid / Senior Back End Developer

Summary

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer and a Mid Level Backend Engineer to join the team and help shape the core architecture of our platform.

This is a high-impact role in an early-stage startup where you’ll design, build, and scale backend systems from the ground up, working closely with the founding team to deliver 10x value to clients.

You’ll take ownership of critical systems including data ingestion, web scraping, APIs, and core platform infrastructure, while ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability at production level.

Location: Porto (2x / week)

Salary Mid Level: €45k-55k / year

Salary Senior: €75k-90k / year

What You’ll Do

• Design and own the core platform architecture end-to-end
• Build a robust, secure, and scalable data ingestion layer for high-volume and diverse data sources
• Develop scraping and parsing systems to extract and structure web and external data reliably
• Build and maintain customer-facing APIs with clear, versioned, developer-friendly design
• Ensure systems are performant, resilient, and production-ready
• Influence and shape engineering culture, raising the bar for quality and ownership
• Improve engineering practices around scalability, reliability, and developer productivity
• Work closely with founders and product to translate requirements into technical solutions
• Continuously iterate and improve system design based on real-world usage and feedback

What We’re Looking For

• 3/5+ years of backend engineering experience with ownership of production systems
• 3+ years of Python (or strong willingness to work primarily with Python)
• Strong understanding of distributed systems (queues, pub/sub, retries, idempotency, eventual consistency, failure design)
• Experience designing clean, versioned REST APIs for external customers
• Strong relational database experience (PostgreSQL or MySQL), including schema design and query optimisation
• Product mindset: focused on solving real user problems, not just technically interesting solutions
• Experience working in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in fast-paced teams

Nice to Have

• Experience building large-scale web scraping systems (anti-bot, proxies, headless browsers)
• Experience with Go, Rust, or C++ for performance-critical components
• Experience with streaming/data pipeline tools (Kafka, Pub/Sub, Flink, Dataflow, etc.)
• Experience in regulated domains such as fintech, KYC/AML, fraud, or compliance
