Senior Backend Performance Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Performance Engineer who will take ownership of backend performance across our clinet's platform.

You will design and build the infrastructure required to keep the product exceptionally fast as traffic, data volume, and platform complexity continue to grow.

This is not a traditional feature-focused backend role. You will work directly on caching, database performance, data synchronization, distributed systems, queues, background processing, networking, and custom infrastructure designed to eliminate latency at every layer.

The ideal candidate has previously optimized high-traffic production systems and can demonstrate measurable improvements in latency, scalability, and reliability.

What you will do:

• Own backend performance across the platform.
• Identify, profile, and eliminate production performance bottlenecks.
• Design advanced caching and data synchronization systems.
• Optimize PostgreSQL databases, queries, indexes, and data-access patterns.
• Improve API performance and reduce response times.
• Optimize queues, asynchronous workflows, and background processing.
• Build custom infrastructure when existing third-party solutions are not sufficient.
• Improve system scalability while maintaining consistently low latency.
• Collaborate with feature teams to define and meet performance targets.
• Monitor and improve system performance using relevant metrics, profiling, and benchmarking.
• Benchmark the platform against high-performing SaaS products.
• Contribute to architecture and system-design decisions for distributed, high-traffic environments.

What we are looking for:

• At least 4 years of backend engineering experience.
• At least 4 years of experience building or scaling high-traffic production systems.
• Experience building, maintaining, or scaling a product used by at least 100,000 monthly active users.
• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL and Redis.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, networking, concurrency, and asynchronous processing.
• Proven experience with database optimization, caching strategies, API performance, queues, and background jobs.
• Experience profiling production systems and resolving latency bottlenecks.
• Experience designing systems where scalability and low response times are critical.
• Ability to build custom infrastructure rather than relying exclusively on third-party solutions.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, and system design.
• High engineering standards and strong attention to detail.
• Professional working proficiency in English.

• Experience working on high-scale SaaS platforms.
• Experience optimizing p95 and p99 latency.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues.
• Experience with observability, tracing, profiling, and performance monitoring tools.
• Experience designing multi-layer caching strategies.
• Experience handling large datasets or high-volume data synchronization.
