Office Type: Remote

Salary: $100,000 – $132,000 USD plus bonus and benefits.

As a Data Scientist, you will join our Supply Chain Analytics team, where data science directly impacts how educational materials reach classrooms across the country. You will develop machine learning models to forecast demand, optimize inventory, and reduce operational costs across tens of thousands of ISBNs and hundreds of millions of dollars in annual revenue.

You will work on a cross-functional scrum team alongside Analytics Engineers and Data Analysts to build production-grade data products. This role reports to the Data Science Manager for Sales, Marketing, and Finance, giving you the opportunity to influence decisions across the entire data stack—from raw data ingestion to executive-facing insights.

Your work will have a tangible impact on ensuring students and educators receive the right materials, at the right time, at the right cost.

What You’ll Do

Our Data Science team builds advanced analytics and machine learning solutions that power strategic decision-making across the organization. In this role, you will:

  • Develop, train, and deploy machine learning models to forecast demand, optimize inventory levels, and improve supply chain efficiency
  • Contribute across the full machine learning lifecycle, including research, feature engineering, model evaluation, deployment, and monitoring
  • Apply advanced statistical and time series methods to uncover patterns, explain drivers, and recommend actionable strategies
  • Partner cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Analytics Engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality, production-ready data products
  • Participate in data ingestion, transformation, modeling, and analysis to ensure end-to-end ownership of solutions
  • Translate complex analyses into clear, compelling narratives for non-technical partners
  • Help elevate the broader Data Science practice by leading learning sessions, sharing best practices, and proposing new tools or architectures

Example Projects You Might Work On

  • Building and deploying time series forecasting models to predict demand across thousands of SKUs with seasonal and regional variability
  • Optimizing inventory placement and replenishment strategies to reduce stockouts and excess inventory
  • Developing model monitoring frameworks to detect drift and ensure long-term forecasting accuracy
  • Partnering with Finance to quantify cost savings and revenue impact from improved forecasting accuracy
  • Collaborating with Analytics Engineers to productionize models using cloud-based ML platforms

Basic Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in a Data Scientist role focused on supply chain forecasting, demand planning, or logistics optimization
  • Strong foundation in statistical methods and time series forecasting (e.g., SARIMA, Prophet, XGBoost)
  • Expert-level Python skills for data cleaning, analysis, and modeling
  • Expert-level SQL skills for data analysis and exploration
  • Experience training and evaluating machine learning models using libraries such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, XGBoost, or tidymodels
  • Experience deploying machine learning models into production environments (e.g., AWS SageMaker, Databricks, Snowpark ML)
  • Familiarity with software development best practices, including git-based version control and testing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially when working with non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to lead self-directed projects and collaborate cross-functionally

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience working with Snowflake
  • Familiarity with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Background in education, edtech, or mission-driven organizations

What We Offer

Salary is only one component of the Total Rewards package, which includes a 401(k) plan, competitive health insurance and mental health options, basic life insurance, paid time off, parental leave, and access to best-in-class development programs.

The gross annual salary range for this role is $100,000 – $132,000, and the position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on individual and company performance.
