This is a remote role, but candidates must be based in Portugal for further consideration.
Role description ๐
We are looking for a skilled Backend Software Engineer to play a pivotal role in the design, development, and maintenance of our platform. You will be responsible for building robust, scalable, and high-performance solutions that power our customers' gifting strategies. You will collaborate closely with other software engineers, product managers, designers, and other business stakeholders, autonomously and as an individual contributor, to deliver the best gifting platform in the world in a scalable and efficient way.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Backend Development: Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and high-performance backend systems that power our innovative gifting platform. Our stack includes Ruby on Rails, Python, and SQL.
- API Development: Build, enhance, and maintain our public APIs and documentation, adapting to the evolving needs of our customers and internal teams.
- Technical Ownership: Participate in technical decision-making and contribute to upholding high-quality engineering standards across the team.
- DevOps Practices: Advocate for and implement DevOps best practices, such as monitoring, logging, and incident response, to ensure system reliability and performance. Our current tools include Sentry, DataDog, New Relic, and Sidekiq.
About You ๐ง
The successful candidate will have:
- Solid Backend Development Experience: 3+ years of experience in backend software development within a product-focused company, demonstrating a solid grasp of software engineering principles, design patterns, and best practices.
- Proficiency in Relevant Technologies: Expertise in Ruby on Rails, Python, and SQL, with the ability to write and optimize queries and troubleshoot database issues effectively.
- API Development Skills: Experience designing, building, and maintaining RESTful APIs, including writing clear, user-friendly documentation.
- DevOps Practices: Practical experience with CI/CD workflows and deployment processes. Familiarity with monitoring and performance tools such as Sentry, DataDog, New Relic, and Sidekiq.
- Proactive and Hands-On Mindset: A self-starter who takes initiative to identify opportunities for improvement and isnโt afraid to roll up their sleeves to solve problems, regardless of complexity or scope.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Demonstrated skill in diagnosing and resolving complex issues in production and test environments.
- Collaboration and Communication Skills: Strong ability to work effectively in a team environment with engineers, product managers, designers, and business stakeholders.
- Frontend Development Skills (nice to have): Experience working with React.js to build and maintain scalable, user-friendly interfaces, ensuring seamless integration with backend services.
