💼 Über uns
Qynn Energy is revolutionizing the design and operation of energy systems through market-integrated energy management. We make investments in energy systems intelligent, transparent, economical, and sustainably successful through highly optimized operations.
At the core is our Qynn algorithm, which leverages local flexibility to optimally align our customers’ assets with electricity and flexibility markets, as well as grid cost reduction. It makes dynamic decisions — years in advance and then in real time — about which use cases and markets to prioritize for economic optimization.
In our founding year, we developed the core intelligence within a small, efficient team and successfully launched a SaaS product for scenario studies.
Now we’re looking for smart minds like you to jointly kick off the next growth phase for the Swiss market and to launch more technically challenging products. Qynn is already rethinking significant parts of the energy market from the ground up — and offers you the chance to make a real impact!
🚀 Tasks
- Develop energy system simulations: write efficient, fast Python code, with optional optimized kernels in faster languages.
- Build modern architecture and software: distributed, data-driven systems with low-latency data flows that make (near) real-time decisions for physical systems.
- Navigate the solution space between technology, software, the internal dynamics of the energy market, the mathematical challenges of market optimization, and the startup reality (business challenges).
🧠 Skills you should bring
- Python (must)
- Solid understanding of system languages like C/C++/Rust (helpful).
- No fear of TypeScript for hand-offs to the frontend or to learn an entirely new language if it solves a new problem.
- Bleeding-edge experience in LLM-supported development, including agents, bots, and team-wide automation
- Deep knowledge of software development processes, debugging, efficient code and best practices.
- Data engineering: working with time series (pandas, polars/arrow) and large datasets, performing efficient time series operations.
- Modern SaaS & system architecture experience: strong DevOps skills; distributed, scalable compute infrastructure (AWS, Modal, etc); data-driven micro-services demanding high reliability and security (we control large energy systems); solid experience with real-time communication protocols like MQTT; large time series databases such as TimescaleDB
- Strong mathematical foundation, especially linear algebra and differential systems and their solutions.
- Energy system: be familiar with the physical basics of electricity, batteries, and heat flows.
- Well-developed imagination for temporal sequences of dynamic processes.
- Bonus: Comfortable with containerized, Linux-based environments, i.e. when debugging our real-time data capture and interfaces.
- Bonus: Machine learning, e.g. for time series prediction.
- Bonus: Solid understanding of reinforcement learning and the necessary tools.
👥 Collaboration & Mindset
- Excellent communication skills: share information quickly, and ask precise questions when needed
- Keep your part of the Kanban board optimally structured and tidy
- Give others helpful, well-formulated feedback and ensure everyone is doing well and having fun (everyone shares responsibility for those around them!)
- Mindset combining the flexibility of “move fast and break things” with the discipline to keep the production system stable through smart measures (tests, E2E testing, quick rollbacks, AI-based bug bots, AI-based testing, smart quality checks)
🎯 What we offer
- A real startup atmosphere with people who love to share experience and best practices. And everything we don’t know yet, we figure out together.
- Clarity, openness, and transparency — we know how important it is for small, successful teams to truly live these values.
- Technically truly challenging and interesting topics, scientific studies and collaborations have been initiated.
- Be surprised every week by what your colleagues have built or achieved — things are really moving forward here.
- You’re really hands-on? Then you’ll get shares / ESOPs. If we’re successful together, you benefit from it.
- Autonomy in working hours and also in vacation time.
- Entrepreneurial experience on the job, for everyone with entrepreneurial ambition. We share all decisions or make them together anyway.
- What we don’t offer: fruit bowls and free drinks — at the moment we’re still a remote company in Switzerland (Zurich, Bern, Aarau) and Germany (Munich). But we do meet regularly for workshops and shared, productive free time.
- The chance to help build something significant. Anyone joining now is right at the front!
